Omar Jacobs, CFL?
So the Winnipeg Free Press said that the Bombers are looking into signing Omar, but instead Omar may be signed by another NFL team and assigned to NFL Europe before they can secure his services. Has anyone else heard anything on Omar's status and what NFL team might be looking at him this time?

Haven't heard anything. But I did see that Pittsburgh had to put Coclough on IR and signed a player off of their practice squad. So they have an opening on their practice squad right now. I think it says a lot if they still don't want him.

Why would you replace a CB with a QB on a practice squad?Warthog wrote:Haven't heard anything. But I did see that Pittsburgh had to put Coclough on IR and signed a player off of their practice squad. Happens all the time. Practice squad is for the players they deem most likely to become worthwhile, position is irrelevant.Redwingtom wrote:Why would you replace a CB with a QB on a practice squad?Warthog wrote:Haven't heard anything. I would not read to much in to Omar not being reuped to the PS. My beloved Steelers are in quite the tight spot right, and the last thing we need right now is another QB.
Sadly for Omar the superbowl champs are in a pinch and have no time develop him and repair Big Ben and the O unit. I think Omar will wind up in the CFL. He got a deal, that just went bad. But he knew full well leaving to enter the draft that this could happen a nd that it was a very real possibility.

I would think having a QB throwing 7 INTs and not a single TD...perhaps a new QB is something that could go over well in Pittsburgh?MACMAN wrote:I would not read to much in to Omar not being reuped to the PS. Batch played very well and led them to their only win...is it possible that Ben was NOT yet ready to return to primetime and rushed things? He doesn't look like the same player to me.
I'm not really sure if you'll ever see the "old" Ben again.

Any thoughts on whether the CFL or NFL-Europe would be the better choice for Omar? I think Josh Harris could have and could be a CFL star because the CFL game places a premium on a QB's ability to be a rushing as well as a passing threat. I'm not sure Omar is the running threat that Josh is.
NFL-Europe would seem to be a better place to learn to play in an NFL offense, but I can't think of many starting NFL QBs who have developed there. John Kitna and Jake Dellhome maybe? On the other hand, Warren Moon, Joe Thiesman, Jeff Garcia, and a few others came out of the CFL.

"No, it's NOT in Kentucky!"
Roethlisberger currently isn't playing well, but he is getting better. Of course, it couldn't get much worse than the Jax and Cinci. games. He played very well against SD (pretty good defense, eh?), except for 1 pass that he should have never thrown. Of course, it was magnified because it was in the 4th quarter.hammb wrote:I would think having a QB throwing 7 INTs and not a single TD...perhaps a new QB is something that could go over well in Pittsburgh?MACMAN wrote:I would not read to much in to Omar not being reuped to the PS. You know he's only 24 years old. Mechanically, I think he is improving. Mentally, I'm sure it's still a challenge to keep the head up. But he'll get over that.
When you see Ben struggle in games, usually two things happen. #1, his passes float high. That's mechanical and it occurred in the Cinci. game. #2, he is tentative with his throws. Often pump faking, then making the throw on the same read, to the same player.
Not worried. Santonio Holmes is getting more playing time opposite Hines Ward. Hines looked a little more healthy against SD.

I'd have to agree here. I don't see why they didn't let Batch start the next game as well and give Ben a ton more time to recover. Didn't they have a bye week in there, too? He could have stood on the sidelines to get back into the feel of the game and had plenty of time to recover physically. Instead they rushed him back before he was mentally and physically ready and his struggles messed with his confidence.hammb wrote:Batch played very well and led them to their only win...is it possible that Ben was NOT yet ready to return to primetime and rushed things? But that's just my opinion...

We can only hope that he never regains his confidence and becomes an NFL outcast never to perform well again.
Even better yet we can hope that the Steelers are convinced that whole time that he's about to turn a corner and they continue to get worse throughout his career.
Of course I'm a Browns fan, so I'm not lucky enough to get my wishes too often, but I can dream can't I?

Screw debating whether Omar should be in Canada or packing his bags to go to Europe. The only place he should be is Bowling Green, Ohio. But, he must have felt like he had too much of Ohio's winters, so he decided to leave. Had he stayed, I think that BG would be in a better situation that it is now.

We definently could have used him for that game against Kent.cbjhack wrote:Screw debating whether Omar should be in Canada or packing his bags to go to Europe. Omar never "loved" BG. He saw this as his meal ticket to the NFL and ran for it.
