Let the games begin
Falcons face EMU
By: Colin Wilson
The 85th Homecoming football game will take place tomorrow at BG. Although it has a sentimental meaning to the school and the football team, this game plays an important role in the standings for BG.
The Falcons are 2-1 in the Mid-American Conference and cannot allow a winless Eastern Michigan team to come into Doyt L. Perry Stadium and spoil their season.
Although they're 0-5, the Eagles have playmaking ability. Their senior wide receiver Eric Deslauriers has 33 catches this year for 334 yards and two scores.
"[Deslauriers] is a real good-sized kid, he has better-than-average speed, great hands; he is a tough guy that can go up and make plays in traffic," said BG coach Gregg Brandon. "He is definitely a threat for them offensively."
On defense the Eagles have Jason Jones and Josh Hunt anchoring their line with a combined 4.5 sacks and linebacker Daniel Holtzclaw who has 2.5 sacks of his own.
"They are a quick defense. We have to block them, we can't just run plays," Brandon said. "We have to make sure we know where they are and make sure our guys know what they are running."
BG has not lost to EMU since 1989 when the Eagles pulled off a 21-13 win over the Falcons in Ypsilanti.
"We've got a chip on our shoulder. The last time we were at home, we didn't perform well," said offensive lineman Derrick Markray. "Now it's time to get back to that tradition of winning at home in the Doyt."
On BG's side of the ball, Anthony Turner looked sharper at Ohio State than he did in Athens. He was an efficient 16 for 24 for 179 yards and a touchdown.
Corey Partridge has been the playmaker that Falcon fans caught a glimpse of in last year's game against Wisconsin. He caught four more passes for 49 yards against the Buckeyes including a smooth one-handed grab in the end zone for a 12-yard score.
"That was a sweet catch. As soon as he caught it, I ran to him and said da-da-da, da-da-da [SportsCenter theme song]," Turner said. "And it made the top five on ESPN."
The running game has been rejuvenated by Chris Bullock after Dan Macon sat out the Ohio game with an ankle problem. Macon is back in uniform but Bullock started his first career game this past Saturday against the Buckeyes and picked up 77 yards on 21 carries to lead all rushers.
The defense has been extremely important the last two weeks for BG. The combination of Diyral Briggs, Devon Parks and Brad Williams has made their presence in the opponents' backfields, combining for nine sacks.
Terrell White is now second in tackles in the conference with an average of 10.2 per game. His hard work and humility has impressed Brandon.
"He is a sideline-to-sideline player; great intensity, solid tackler, a quiet leader on our defense," Brandon said.
The season has turned around for the Falcons since a loss to Kent State. They have looked like a new team the past two weekends, playing with more urgency and playing better football.

maggot
maggot. they are students, which may represent the paper as a whole poorly sometimes, but certain writers do stand out as being good journalists. Colin Wilson is one of them. Dont judge the entire paper by certain writers, there are some 18 year olds writing.

I don't think maggot was refering to the content of Mr. Wilson's writing, but rather the title of this thread by irs.bgbrandon wrote:maggot. they are students, which may represent the paper as a whole poorly sometimes, but certain writers do stand out as being good journalists.
