Ay-Ziggy-Zoomba.com

I snuck out of Columbus and managed to see this one in person. It was my first game at the Doyt this year. Some thoughts:

1. I was glad to see the brown shirts. That goes without saying, but, still, here I am saying it.

2. This defense is AWESOME. I mean, they were really STICKING people yesterday. I know some of us miss the machine-like efficiency with which we were crushing most opponents a couple of years ago, but this defensive-minded team is quite entertaining. Hats off to John Lovett, who really seems to have transformed this defense. (And when the offense finally comes around -- look out!)

3. A very nice touch was at the end of the first quarter when they showed a clip of Mike Weger singing Ay Ziggy Zoomba in Paper Lion on the videoboard. As soon as the song was complete, the band launched into a couple rounds of AZZ. That was a GREAT moment, it was a BIG TIME moment, and I hope we do that in every single home game from now on. It was really, really cool.

Ahhh so that is what that was all about. I was watching online and it was during a break so the announcers mics were killed and they had the crowd mic on still. I heard that and I thought to myself "is that an ex player on the field getting a varsity BG award or something"

I'm with you, SF, about the D. It has work to do but they are freakin fun to watch. John Hanline had a great hit yesterday and they've been getting after people. Kudos to Coach Lovett!

Add the fact the ST's have improved, once the O gets consistent....oh, what a show it will be.

Hanlline's hit was great, but what about Dozier's when it looked like EMU was trying a trick play, that hit was nasty

By my count, we got our first win in our brown jerseys. The curse has been lifted, and in my opinion, that is awesome!

I figured this would come up.

I don't believe in curses and that sort of thing, but for those looking for weird trends: I think you could argue that Bowling Green has actually played over their heads in brown.

Wisconsin is a Top 25 team. Bowling Green is far from it this season -- and yet the Falcons really hung in there in Cleveland.

Last year's triple overtime Toledo game? I think most of us would concede Toledo had a better team in 2005. Would the Falcons have taken Toledo to overtime in orange?

Like I said, I don't believe in curses.

Dozier is quickly becoming my favorite player on the team. He could end up being one of the better LBs we've had here at BG, he seems to have the instincts & ability to play the game the way it should be played.

On that play of which you speak it was a HB option toss. The QB pitched to the HB, who then looked like he was running a sweep. He then stopped running to the right (too early to really sell the play), and as soon as he stopped Dozier made a beeline for the QB. Sure enough the play was a pass back and the ball hung in the air for long enough that he got to line up a perfect hit.

And what I love best about Dozier? He didn't just hit him, he wrapped his arms around his waist and drove through the guy's body. Sure it was a QB trying to catch a ball in an almost defenseless position. It was still a perfect form tackle that you could put on a video. That's why I love that kid.

I like Dozier too. When he lines somebody up, he delivers a blow when making a tackle. But, as far as a favorite player to watch, Briggs is my favorite. When he got a sack Saturday, I leaned over to my wife with the hint that I sure would like a brown 99 jersey for Christmas.

I think most of us would concede Toledo had a better team in 2005.

I don't think that's the case, which is one of the reasons people were so disappointed last season.
