The First Rule of Toledo.

They will always screw-up a good thing.

And so they did, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

They rally from down 9-0 in the fourth quarter against EMU. They go ahead with 3 minutes left, 13-9. EMU has to score a TD to win. They are pouting on the sidelines. UT goes for a 2 point conversion. Why? Beats me. But they do. The ball is stripped, and run back by EMU for 2 points, and ten times that much in big Mo. They promptly run the ball back half-way downt he field on the kick-off. And storm their way to a TD.

EMU wins 17-13, and UT remains defeated in MAC play, and is now 3-5 for the year.

It is not that the two points made a difference, it was the reaction EMU had to it. It was like injecting life into the dead.

ESPN is showing a 15-13 EMU lead with :17 left.

The conversion makes sense, because the TD puts you up 4, a kicked PAT makes it 5. At least with a successful 2 pt. conversion, you force them to kick the PAT after a TD to break the tie for win. Of course, if it gets returned for 2pts the other way, it looks foolish, but at the time, it's probably the right call.

Fox goofed it too, counting the returned conversion as a TD, not 2 points.

True enough, there is math to support the call, but messing it up, makes it a field goal game, and thats what happened. At least a kick would have only been good for 1 point. And in any case, a failed attempt even without the the return, makes them look dumb, and gives EMU a huge boost, which is what happened.

In any case, they couldn't hold a team out of the in-zone for 3 minutes, after doing it the entire game. Thats bad.

They're actually 2-6 (0-4) in the MAC).

Wow. Here I was giving them credit, now I've got to go and take it all back. Welcome to .500 or worse football in T Town. Our season aside, if my team can't do well, by god I feel slightly less down when that team sucks.

I can't figure out what a "roughing the Center" penalty is. Called during a field goal attempt that was no good. That's basically the officials scoring for Toledo as it gave them the ball back with a first down on the 4. And the game was on the line.

EMU has one penalty the whole first half and then gets over 6 in the second. I swear it looked like the officials were working for Toledo.

You must allow the center to pick his head up before you hit him. when the center is snapping the ball, his neck is very exposed and an immediate downward force could cause serious injury.

It's a good rule, and it was properly enforced.

I don't believe you can hit/block the long snapper on a FG or punt.

For Toledo fans the good news, and there is good news, is that the Rockets' overall record is still better than Buffalo's. Beyond that, I recommend Tai Chi breathing. Lots of it.

Before our game, Toledo has Akron, Ball State, and NIU. Will they be trying to get their only MAC win of the season againt us? How cool would it be for us to hand them a winless MAC record?

They could lose all three of those games. They traditionally have problems with Ball State, but that is on the road. Not that their home field is safe this year either.

In any case, I saw nothing at all UT was able to do well today. I'm flabbergasted and thrilled. I honestly did not think they could get that bad, that fast.

I'm shocked as well. We got back from the BG/Akron vball match and I was able to catch the last quarter. UT simply looks like they don't want to play anymore. Get the season over asap.

Much cooler than it would be to hand them their only win of the season...

Cooler than winning "American Idol".
