but in the same weather that prompted 16,669 people (according to the box score) to filter into the Doyt, Toledo managed to draw 21,552 people for their game against Ohio.

Toledo hasn't lost to NIU yet, and technically isn't out of, or nearly out of the race for the west yet.

Given time, they'll screw that up as well.

Plus, Ohio beat Kentucky, isn't as bad as Ball State, and a blow-out wasn't a certain thing.

For me, having DVR'd their game, I enjoyed it.

I learned every single pass play they run, and they are all butt-naked simple.

Plus, on national TV, for fully 15 seconds at the start of the 2nd quarter, we were treated to Jabba the Stutz with both of his pudgy little hands held to his mouth, trying to squeeze a snack-sized candy bar into his face. And when he was done with this appearent struggle, he had a happy-fat-man smile on this face. The only thing missing was seeing him rub his tummy.

And did you see when they showed Amstutz's office and commeted on the bar-b-que grill sitting outside? You can't make this stuff up.

Truly I wish I could, but as we have a dinky Time Warner DVR, not the manly Panasonic with a DVD-R, I can't.

He struggled with the thing. You could see the wrapper in his hand, and it seemed like he was trying to squeeze it out and into his mouth, but it wouldn't go. Kind of like, for example, you've had candy in your pocket for awhile and you want to eat it, but its melted into the wrapper. He finally seemed to get it to go.

The announcers kind of paused, then picked up their banter again.

But I'm telling you, their passing plays were easy to pick apart.

Every passing play, where their QB does NOT roll out, there is always a short dump-off option, typically behind the line of scrimage. If there isn't an opening way down field, he dumps off, or on roll-out plays, will scramble. The effect is to make it seem like he is some kind of talent. The truth is that their system doesn't require you to think much, and lends itself towards high percentage passing.

In single back sets, the RB runs east or west and waits for a pass.

In two back sets, the backs fake as though they are blocking for a fraction of a second. If nobody is coming, they both break straight up field, turn just past the line of scrimage, and wait for a pass.

In two tight-end sets, one blocks, the other to the middle, ahead of the line of scrimage.

In sets with one back, and two WRs to one side, you get the classic UT bubble screen pass, with the far WR using the inner WR for a pick after the catch.

In pass plays where the QB rolls, there aren't any WRs or RBs waiting for the short pass, they all go down field. If there isn't a WR open, the QB keeps running. This is done either up the middle but to the side.

The effect looks like the QB is "making the play happen." But in truth its just the way the play unfolds. The system is quick.

How do you beat that? Thats for a defensive coach to say. But it is clear their system can be disrupted.

Plus, it seems obvious at this point in the season, UT is a third quarter team. Not a second half team, not a fourth quarther team, just a third quarter team. If they don't get way ahead of somebody in the third quarter, they lose. They need the entire first half to wake-up, half-time for their coaches to sort them out, and THEN they seem to get their act in gear. Thats poor adjustments on the coaches part. If you can get ahead of them in the first half, and just manage to blunt their third quarter surge, you beat them.

Finally, if OU had a QB that could do anything, they would have won that game.

C'mon gang, we're talking about almost 5,000 more people, almost 30% more. For a homecoming game.

That we can just shrug that off is surprising.

I'm not saying the attendance wasn't a let-down. I am saying it was darn funny seeing him cram that thing into his mouth.

In any event, I'm more interested in knowing what more could be done to enhance the gameday and homecoming experience.

I'll start another thread on that topic.

We need a retractable roof. And a really nice sofa on the pavillion of the new Sebo center for myself and select guest(s).

On the topic of Amstutz, he looked like a fat raccoon who had just fished a tasty morsel out of a garbage can. I'm suprised he didn't try to wash that little snack off in a river or stream.

Let's not forget that there are often two numbers relevant to UT attendance. There's the actual number and the reported number. I tried counting the fans on tv, but I kept getting distracted at 73....

I didn't even listen to the part about the grill out on the deck. I was on the other side of the room, feeding my 11 month old. I saw the shot on camera and didn't even need to hear the audio, I knew it could only be one thing.

I'd kill to have an endless loop of that video set to Kenny Loggins "I'm Alright" from Caddy Shack.

What somebody must do, is to get some still pics of that. About four or five of them, and one after he was done, with that "I just ate the neighbors dog" smile on his face.

I was dissappointed with the small number, but the crowd that was there was vocal and I cannot blame people for leaving . I mean it was 21-0 at the end of one.

-UT had ESPN

-We had a stadium designed like a wind tunnel in 30mph winds and sleet

what was the weather at your homecoming like? we had 40s with swirling winds up to 30 mph. and we had 27,000 people attend our homecoming. of course it was almost empty by the start of the 4th, but they showed up nonetheless
