BG/Miami Game...STUDENT SECTION

Post by Metz »

I heard word today they are moving the student section to the East side of the stadium for the Miami game. Basically to "look fuller" on TV. I rather be sitting with all the BG fans, behind our bench, cheering for our team, and be able to watch the halftime show! Maybe you all disagree, but I think this idea is redick.

Yep- the student section and the band are moving to the east side of the stadium. Supposedly it is so as not to be as embarrassing as the CMU game. The second tune of the FMB's halftime show faces the east side, so you will still here some of the show. I still have mixed feelings on the whole thing.

These are the kind of things that make people not want to come to the games.

But can't you pretty much choose to sit wherever you want??

Personally I like following the line of scrimmage or be between the end zone and the 20 at whichever end BG is driving to. It worked real well in OT vs. Buffalo.

How do they plan on informing the non-students that they will have to move to the other side, and explain the students that they have to go to the other side? I could just see people causing ruckus over this.

I like where I stand now, but I suppose this may help out a little because we can get really loud behind the opposing teams bench.

Any word on whether the team will be moving to the East side as well?

I don't think they will tazer any students who attempt to sit on the West side, they are just requesting people sit on the East side so it doesn't look like an EMU home game on national tv. I"m cool with that.

let it look empty so the MAC is embarassed enough to let us have our home games on Saturday so that we can have a prayer of meeting the NCAA's attendance requirements in the future

I agree with a lot of the comments on this game ...

Being on National TV is such a double-edged sword for us. We get some great exposure for our team, but it's so easy for people to stay home if they think it's too cold, not to mention traveling on a weeknight. I have no doubt the students will show up for this game. It's the rest of the fans out there that I am concerned about. Michelle and I have made arrangements at work, so we won't have a problem with it, but I could see a lot of people not being able to get to a Wednesday night game from out of town.

I agree with you on this one.

Why does ESPN have to be facing the opposing team side, why don't they face the home team and see all of us (students) behind them? Do they have to face or be on a certain side?

They set up on the side of the press box for cable running purposes. That and so the announcers are calling the game from the same perspective as the cameras.

EDIT: Even coming from a TV guy, this seems to make no sense, but I know of what I speak. They've got cameras all over, but for the bulk of their call, its easier to have much of them set up on that side. Or something like that.

For the TV purposes not only are the cables run on the West side right to the Sat truck take a look at the top of the boxes on both sides of the Doyt next time you are there.

But the cameras would have no place to set up on the East side. That sounds silly but if you've never examined it closely you wouldn't know....

The luxury boxes on the East side have a/c units on top not a surface to set up on. The press box and presidents suite on the West side actually have orange and brown tent like structures on their roofs to house cameras.
