Root for OU or Kent This Weekend?

I say root for Kent State. The chances of us overtaking Kent for the East division are slim and none. Therefore, I say let's put OU behind us in the East division and improve our bowl chances.
I think we have to win out to get to a bowl game. I don't see how we can go bowling with a 7-5 record. There are too many good teams in the West division that might be more attractive than us to bowl committees. Central has the inside track to the title. Western has only lost two games so far, and NIU has a Heisman candidate. All three would be more attractive than us at 7-5.
If we go 8-4, maybe we can sneak ahead of one or more of those teams if they lose another game down the stretch. Our best chance for a bowl is if we win out and the MAC gets a fourth bowl invite because of the NCAA not having a lot of bowl-eligible teams to choose from. But, with the new 12 game schedule...it's a lot easier to get to the six win mandate.

I always have to root for our best possible outcome. The best possible outcome for us I can see is us winning out and Kent slipping and falling flat on their faces losing a game or two. I'm not saying it will happen, or that its even realistic but you gotta hope (and root) for the best. The only thing I have against OU is bobkitty, and I'm sure we have our fair share of bozos lurking around other school's sites as well. Go OU beat Kent!

True! But if you are a lower-level bowl game, you are looking for any marketing angle you can hang your hat on. I guarantee you that they will lead with "Garret Wolfe, the Heisman Trophy candidate." You saw the same type of thing in what Omar got during our game in Memphis a couple of years ago.

And if you are an any-level bowl game you are looking for cash money (dollar, dollar bills, y'all). And our perceived attendance 'issues' don't bode well in that regard. I am afraid winning the East and playing in the championship game is the only way we go bowling this season.

Remaining MAC schedules for OU and Kent...
OU
@ Kent State
@ Eastern Michigan
Akron
@ Miami
Kent State
Ohio
@ Buffalo
Eastern Michigan
@ Ball State
After the Ohio game, Kent has games with teams that have a combined MAC record of 3-11. I don't see them losing three games and allowing us to overtake them in the standings.
Let's keep the Kitties behind us in the East!

I agree that our attendance and the size and ability of our fan base to travel will put us behind other national programs. However, I don't think our attendance will amount to a hill of bean stacked against other MAC schools. If a bowl is considering us along with Western Michigan and Northern Illinois, I don't think attendance plays a part. Yes, WMU ad NIU might average a few more fans than us for home games, but in terms of selling tickets to a bowl game, all MAC schools are about the same.
If the committee is choosing between MAC schools, they'll look at the which team is the "better sell" in terms of a game match-up. Do they have "star power" among their players? What style of offense do they play? How and who did they play out of Conference?
I also think that the MAC Commissioner plays a big part in these decisions as well. He can quitely lobby hard for a school he perceives as the better team based on the season.
The fact that BG averages 15,000 per game and say NIU averages 19,000 won't mean a thing in terms of a bowl selection. Now if they are considering BG and say Kansas State, you might have a point.

Even if they win out I doubt they will over-take us unless we completely meltdown the rest of the season.

Overtake? They are already ahead of us!

I'm rooting for Kent State to lose tomorrow. OBC makes it impossible for me to root for OU to win.
I am also rooting for Akron to lose at UT tomorrow night. Anything to help BG's cause.
I don't see Kent State losing more than 2 MAC games.

I'm going to root for the team with the dumb color scheme.

I don't think Kent loses enough, but a chance is still a chance. So, I'm rooting for OU.
BG going to a Bowl?

Forget it folks its not happening whether we win out or not. Frankly we don't deserver one this year. Part of me wants us in a bowl game but the pride part of me doesn't cuz we'd get lambasted to a pulp by whomever we would play. I don't want recruits seeing that on national tv. We're just way to young and injury riddled right now.

What? Falconboy with no hope for the future? Well I'll be damned!
