Bear in mind...

Post by JoeFalcon »

Amidst the anger and frustration we all feel over the outcome of Saturday’s game, it’s important to remember that the men who presently oversee the football program bleed orange and brown as much if not more than any of us and have devoted significant parts of their life to Bowling Green football.

*Offensive Coordinator Greg Studrawa is a Bowling Green alumnus and a former starter at left tackle on the 1985 MAC Championship team.

*Running backs coach John Hunter is a Bowling Green alumnus and ex-player who was a two-time All-American at linebacker.

*Linebackers coach D.J. Durkin was a two-time BG football captain who was an original graduate assistant under Urban Meyer.

*Defensive line coach Mike Ward has spent 15 years at BG developing athletes as a strength coach and a member of the football coaching staff.

*Gregg Brandon, wide receivers coach Zach Azzanni and strength coach Aaron Hillmann were also part of the original Meyer staff in 2001 that initiated the program’s resurgence.

*Defensive Coordinator John Lovett left a coordinator job at another D-IA school to be a part of BG football, and the rest of the coaching staff has all had offers to depart after the bowl wins.

This is not to say that losing to Temple is acceptable or an attempt to ignore the significant issues that need to be addressed in order to give the team a better chance to win.

It is simply to remind people that the present coaching staff is probably just as upset with the current status of the team as we are and are undoubtedly working as hard as possible to rectify it. They are Falcons, too, and have worked hard to make Bowling Green football a winner. Let’s not forget or lose sight of that.

They should be more upset than me...this is thier job...your job is your identity...your claw mark on the tree of life...you have to take that super seriously.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

To his credit, Coach Ward stood outside the defensive bus after the game and talked to every one of his linemen before they got on the bus. The other coaches may have done their talking elsewhere, but Ward was the one we saw. And yes, talk is cheap, I know.

It was one of the most painful games to watch in all my years of Falcon Football. And I was at Boise, too. Hmmm...Maybe I should stay home

I have no doubt in my mind that these losses are just as hard on the coaching staff as they are on us. I don't doubt that they care as much as we do. Most of all, I don't doubt that they are trying to do their best to turn this thing around and get us back on track.

The only thing I really doubt is whether or not they can actually accomplish turning things around.

So Mike was the strength coach when linemen couldn't bench 300lbs?

Good point hammb...So does this translate into the talent level is just not there? If this is the issue, then there needs to be other guys getting a chance to play....

If you're referencing the hyperbolic statement made by Urban Meyer a few months into his tenure, there was actually a different strength coach between Ward and Coach Hillmann if you really want to take the statement literally.

If you're referencing the fact that he was a stength coach for a long time before modern theories and advancements were made in the field, so was your guy at Miami of Ohio who's now with the New Orleans Saints. Judging by your stellar record this year, I take it you miss him and what he brought to the team.

i actually have referenced your tent of pain on the practice field at BG... and how Miami needs one to weed out the weak...

I have been completely disgusted by the inability of the team on the offensive side of the ball to do anything. They can't run block, they can't pass block, wide receivers can't get open, runningbacks can't evade tacklers, the quarterback has glue on his hands and holds onto the ball for days on end... but we really miss is our offensive line coach who went to tOSUA&M. He has been a bigger loss. The team also lacks a heart for what it is worth.

As for who was the strength and condition coach, was he or was he not the coach under Blackney?
