The distress about our head coaching situation has predictably amped up after the loss to Temple. I'm sure many are asking themselves if it even matters what we think, since BG simply doesn't get rid of coaches before their contracts are up. It really isn't financially viable for us to do so.


I know I'm going to get killed for this, and I still don't know if it's the right thing to do, but I am going to do it out of desperation. I desperately want to avoid our program sliding any further.

Therefore, I am going to inform the AD that I am halting all monetary donations to the athletic department until Gregg Brandon is gone. I will still buy tickets and attend games of all sort, but I will not donate any more money outside of that. I will give him the figure that I have donated in the past, and what I was planning on donating in the next couple years. My only hope, is that enough people will do the same that it becomes financially viable to buy Brandon out.

I can't encourage you to act as I am, because this is a very personal situation for all of us that donate to the University in any form. But, if you were looking for something you could do, here it is.

I will make no judgement of your decision, J4H, but I will suggest that you funnel what you would have donated to the AD to academic purposes. There are many other areas of the University that are worthy of being supported, too.

I'm not saying I agree with your idea, but we can always use a little help over in the CMA.

Seems premature, esp with allthe changes that are going to happen with D1 BCS over the next several years. GB is a good coach, and it might just be that he is a bad recruiter. I figure he will leave of his own choosing soon, but if he did not, one poor season due to our injured super star and one in the sespool due to rebuilding is realy no cause to call for the coaches head.

Nicely put....if Omar doesn't go down last year, we in all probability would have finished 9-2. And HELLO...we still have a chance to finish this season with a winning record. To say that we are entering "the doldrums" is absurd. For all you people saying that BG Football is headed in the wrong direction, come talk to me when we first have back to back losing seasons or something at least.

Ok, this is the second time you have alluded to Omar going down being the reason we had a poor season last year. I don't want to get in to a pissing match, and I am not one to say that they should fire anyone or discontinue the football program. But last season we were a struggling football team BEFORE Omar went down. That fact is pretty well documented on here. I attended every game last season save @Boise, @Buff, and @Miami, but I watched every single game except @Buff. The team had an excellent first half at Wisconsin and we competed in the other games but we could have and maybe should have lost at Ball State and at Kent.

I like Gregg Brandon. I have entertained his youngest son on a Falcon Club bus trip to Oxford. He is a nice guy. I like how he gets fired up and I think he has a passion for the game. I think he is an excellent offensive coordinator and offensive mind. I have never been sold on him as a head coach.

I will support BG football and Falcon athletics. I feel there are people in place to check to make sure GB is doing his job correctly. On one hand we have an enigmatic football team that has disappointed us. ON the other hand you have conditioned your fan base to expect to win and compete for championships and now when you slip a little bit you feel the repercussions.

Again I am not a glass is half empty guy, but there are signs that hammb and others have pointed out that the team has been slipping gradually away from the excellence we had in 2001-2003. Walking out of Camp Randall I was energized for the season last year. Walking out of Ball State stadium I believe my words to Freak were "I'm supposed to be happy because we won, right?"

And we have a chance to finish 4-8 with three of the wins coming over teams with a combined record of 2-22. And those wins are in triple OT, by 5 points and 3 points. Doesn't look so good this way, does it?

I too...believe it or not...have been following BG football.

Does a new coach suddenly cause AT to start hitting open receivers?

Does a new coach suddenly prevent Rojas from shanking a punt for 12 yds.

If it does...then fine...I'm all for a new coach.

But we need to be very careful what we wish for...because we have a guy right now who has yet to give us a losing season..(we don't know how this year end up yet). The grass isn't always greener on the other side.

So tell me, what direction ARE we heading, if it's not the wrong one. This here is a pattern of decline. We've gotten worse overall each year, we've gotten worse in conference each year (this year is not over yet, but already matched last year's overall loss total).

This is a pattern. A 3 year pattern of decline. That is evidence of a program moving in the WRONG DIRECTION. Sure we haven't hit the bottom yet, but why should we wait until we hit the bottom before we try to rise back up?

We play in the MAC.

With the exception of OU, the teams we've beaten this year are pathetic.

Giving kudos for a possible winning season with this schedule is analogous to giving a student an 'A' on his test for just signing his name on the paper. Neither could be considered an accomplishment.

If you do not think there was a huge dropoff from 2004 to 2005 you are crazy. You can go on and on about that injury but I don't believe the record would have been much different.

Out of last year's 5 losses, Omar played the entire game for 3 of those. The trend doesn't change if you assume we would have beaten Akron and WMU without his injury.

Even if you take last year out of the equation, we're in decline. Why do you think Omar left for the NFL? He knew it was going to be bad this year. How did it get to this though? We'll be LUCKY to finish .500 this year.
