TMQ calls out BG for running up the score

From Gregg Easterbrook's Tuesday Morning Quarterback piece on ESPN's Page 2:

"Running Up the Score Watch No. 2: Reader Joe Bittner of San Jose, Calif., notes that over the past two seasons, Bowling Green relentlessly ran up the score on humble Temple, winning by a combined 140-23. Saturday, the football gods exacted vengeance as Temple snapped its 20-game losing streak by defeating Bowling Green."

I sent him an e-mail trying to correct the "relentlessly running up the score" reference. Last year our last two scores were on an interception return and a punt return. And Turner played all but one series in the second half. He threw one pass, which was intercepted.

In the 2004 game, the score was just 14-9 early in the second quarter. We threw two passes the entire second half and we used four guys at TB. The starter, Pope, had just 9 carries becaus he played so little. I specifically remember Brandon commenting after the game something like "we ran the same play six times in a row and stilled scored a TD. Short of taking a knee, I don't know what else we could have done."

Dispite my displeasure over the result last Saturday, I still felt the need to defend our honor somewhat.

And no other team out there put up huge points against Temple in the last few years??? F that guy. Great response, WH.

Also, the Partridge punt return from 2005 occurred with only 10 players on the field for Bowling Green.

The hooters on their message board seem to be taking such a joy in specifically getting BG to break the streak because we have RUTS on them in the past. . . . .

If we really wanted, we could have scored 120 on them in 2004. Please. RUTS? Now I can't wait til the Owls come back to the Doyt next year.

Boy they really took it to us this year, huh? With their 200 total yards...shoot we had over 400 yards of offense and this is our "down" year!

Warthog,

Glad to see you made it to the bottom of "Page Two"! I was transfixed by the Tennessee Titan cheerleader Halloween costume pics and found it very difficult to reach the bottom of "Page Two". Anyways, kudos for trying to set the record straight with Gregg Easterbrook.
