Results?

Post by Class of 61 »

FWIW,
I never saw a final score on the TU-NIU game....anyone help me on this one? (my brother, former TU student til he transferred to Cent.Fla), said Toledo was winning 17-10 at half.....

Curious, as my early edition of PD didn't have a score of any kind.

Toledo makes a goal line stand to hang on 17-13. NIU aided by a pair of BS pass interference calls and stooopid play calling at the 1 yard line lost the game.

We get mad about our playcalling but what Novak did to NIU the other night was some of the worst decision making with the game in the balance at the goal line I have ever seen.

We also complain about the state of our program but as has been pointed out we probably still have the name recognition that NIU and Toledo have on a national scale and seem to have just as if not a more promising future than those squads.

Toledo "wins" 17-13.

NIU lost more than Toledo won. No clue why they pulled their QB.

I'm still not sure if that game actually happened, or if I just dreamt about it.

That was no dream...it was more of a nightmare

Totally agree with everything ya said, DD. Watching that game was painful..NEITHER team looked good at all. And both were picked to contend this year, not us. That playcalling on the 2 with 4 cracks at the end zone???? The WORST ever.

BG's future looks a whole lot brighter than both NIU and UT.

Here's an interesting point, NIU's backup is who lead them to a win against Toledo last year.

To be honest, I'm not sure why Horvath wasn't pulled earlier.

Go Falcons!

Horvath was in for both TD drives and was instrumental in one of ours as well. Well rounded guy. As for the play calling I thought it was excellent-just poor execution. Every time they threw in the endzone we got called for pass interference so why not continue? Of course the game could never end as NIU would get a smaller and smaller half the distance penalty but never get the ball in. Micrometers would come into play.

Seriously, the guy who caught about 60 yards worth of passes on the last drive dropped a wide-open first down pass from the two that would have been a TD. RUIT could have caught it with one hand. Partridge could have caught it with one wing. Flipper could have caught it with one flipper. Horvath hit him chest high in the hands with a nice lead and the guy flat out dropped it. Giving the ball to their tailback, who stinks by the way, was a poor choice at any point in the game. Nevertheless, I am not turning down any wins, especially road wins, not evne to NIU, our own personal lackies.

Forget the game. Did any of you catch that FOG??? I was periodically checking the game that night, turned it on in the first quarter, and all was good. I look back again, mid-way through the 2'nd quarter, and all of a sudden you couldn't see anything. They were showing the game exclusively from the rolling sideline cam, as thats the only thing they had below the cloud. CRAZY.

The NIU/UT game sort of reminded me of the Fog Bowl between the Bears and Eagles. That game started off as a beautiful sunny day, then the fog rolled in. Pretty crazy.

Garrett Wolfe's fall from grace has been eriely similar to Omar's last year (except Omar got hurt).

MAC player in the talks for Heisman at the start of the season, who is completely forgotten about by the end of the season.

I was being somewhat facetious of course when I said he stinks. He is clearly not the runner he was a mopnth or so ago. If not a single injury then it appears he has just absorbed too much cumulative pounding. He was totally ineffective. I suspect he has no pro future unless someone sees him as a return guy. He sure whupped up on us last year though.

The only team more snake-bitten than BG over the last five years in the MAC has been NIU. In the last five years prior to this season, BG and UT (along with Miami and Toledo) have arguably been the best teams in their respective divisions but haven’t won MAC Championships despite having some loaded teams. Both teams won several games against BCS opponents, BG – Purdue, Missouri, Kansas, Northwestern & NIU – Alabama, Maryland, Iowa State. BG at least won two bowl games during that time while NIU won one, so all was not lost. The year NIU beat Alabama, Maryland and Iowa State and went 10-2 and didn’t go bowling, that was a crime. That reminded me of our BG basketball teams of 1997, 2000 and 2002 getting snubbed by the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee. And yes, this year for NIU does remind me a little of BG last year, a team that was loaded and highlighted by a star player that felt well short of its goals.
GO BG!!!
