I've seen the RedHawks twice in person. They got manhandled at home by Kent and Ball State squeaked out a victory against them, also in Oxford. The score for the Kent game was close, 16-14, but it should have been a much wider margin. KSU had some sloppy special teams plays (sound familar?) and it cost them a chance to blow out Miami. MU actually had a chance to win that game but couldn't quite pull it off.
Against BSU, MU committed a lot of dumb penalties and BSU pulled it out in the end.
The MU O line is not good. They have a lot of injuries and they are not playing well. The QB, Kokal, is so-so. He might actually be good but who can tell? It's hard to impress from your backside. Their main RB was supposed to be B. Murphy but he's been hurt a lot this year. Their running game isn't impressive either. Ryne Robinsom, WR, punt returner is a really good player. He can run like the wind and catch the ball. As a punt returner he should be ignored. BG would be better off with 28 yd punts than letting him return one. He's a record setting punt returner and the BG offense can't overcome any ST touchdowns. I say, kick it away from Mr. Robinson.
The Miami D has been run on this year. In both games I saw, they were hurt with long plays. KSU through the air and BSU had a long run in the first quarter. But they haven't been blown out in a conference game. They keep it to where they have a chance to win at the end.
According to newspaper and radio accounts, they played really well at Western Michigan, but WMU was just too good.
I would like to make a bold prediction and say BG 28, MU 17, but we lost to Temple.
Go BG!!

I figure the winner of this game makes the most of the others mistakes...We Redhawks could easily be .500+ but for a one key error in ea game, but hey, thats football and every team has those examples...
Most of us look at UC or Ohio as the big rivalries, but I see MU/BGSU - two great programs (struggling this year) that will make a very interesting wed gamenight.
Miami fans are heading north. Tailgate at my van- just look for the Redhawk flag...

Hopefully your punter will have another night like he did last year. We'll be doing our part to assist him - you know, overwatering the visitors side of the fieldarchangel wrote:I figure the winner of this game makes the most of the others mistakes...

I agree with archangel. Besides EMU, there isn't another hard luck team in the MAC like Miami. They've lost a ton of close games and are much better than their current record. We'll have to fight, claw and scrape our way to a win. There's too much pride in both progams.
Have a safe trip up, MU fans. I've been to Yager a few times for BG games and the MU fans are always civil. They won't try to run you over in their Audi's like the CMU folks do with their Broncos up in Mt Not So Pleasant!
archangel,
The AZZ.com group tailgates in the East lot right by I-75...across from the only hill in the county on the golf course. If ya can, stop over for a cold one. We don't bite...usually. There are a couple folks that park campers and I'll have my White Honda Civic, BGSU flag and a BG helmet on the top.
GO FALCONS!!! BEAT MIAMI!

That wasn't the punter... of course when you have CMU Punter memories of a 17 sec 73 yard dash, I understand the confusion! (I was at that game by the way)
In reality it was the snapper who just couldn't get his head into the game, after the first ball went past the punter and out of the endzone.
I don't agree with the assessment of Miami's performance against Kent State, neither team played well, and holding kent state to 16 points wasn't something BG was able to do.
Be that as it may, Miami is beat up, there isn't much left in the tank for this team. I just hope its a good game.

Maybe since I was expecting MU to spank KSU, it just seemed worse for Miami than it actually was. However, KSU dropped three or four easy interceptions that day.redskins4ever wrote: I don't agree with the assessment of Miami's performance against Kent State, neither team played well, and holding kent state to 16 points wasn't something BG was able to do.
Be that as it may, with BG's offense sputtering this year and MU keeping every game tight, it may not be a good game as far as showcasing the best the MAC has to offer, but it certainly should be exciting.
I live in Hamilton, so I see more MU games than BG games and I agree with the sentiment that MU fans are largely a civil collection.
A few years ago when MU beat BG in Oxford (Ben vs Josh) as I was walking to my car wearing my BG shirt and hat I heard a bunch of "Hey, enjoy that long ride home! Whatya got? Four hours to think about this!"
My reply was "Dude, I live 20 minutes from here."
Go BG!

Others may have their camper at this game, but we won't...already put away for the winter. Too much work for a weeknight game or we would have it!! BUT we will be there in the car!! "Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Miami has had the wrong QB in all season, regardless of what others may say about starting a Redshirt freshmen... if you have the choice between two players, one who will graduate in two years, and another who has four years worth of eligibility and its a toss up as to who is better, the freshmen has more upside, I'd rather go through a 1 win season with DR, then with MK...
Miami's offense has been as interesting as watching two heavy weight boxers lean on one another, very little action, very little imagination, I haven't seen any evolution to our spread offense and I blame the fact that we have two offensive co-ordinators on that. One for the run and one for the pass, we need to ditch that philosphy.
I'll be warm and toasty in one of the boxes, so all you brave souls sitting in real football conditions have fun!

Why even go to the game? Why just watch it on ESPN?redskins4ever wrote:I'll be warm and toasty in one of the boxes, so all you brave souls sitting in real football conditions have fun!
Real men watch football in true football weather. Hopefully it snows and is about 25 degrees out
