Chardon High School

Post by Rightupinthere »

Beat the snot out of Mayfield last night 31-0 in the div II region V semifinal. The defense has been unbelievable. Versus Mayfield, they forced four turnovers and chalked up five QB sacks. For the season they have given up an average of 8.6 points per game.

Next week they play top ranked Nordonia Knights for the regional finals.

I only mention this because Mitch Hewitt is one of the defensive coaches (LBs) of the Hilltoppers and a social studies teacher as well, I believe.

RUIT,
Next week should be a HECK of a game...Chardon's tough because of that crazy double wing O that they run...hard to defense because no one else does it. I've seen Nordonia, (Dan Macon's alma mater) and they have a very experienced team (25-30 Srs.) with perhaps the top RB in the State in Jordan Mabin... (he rushed for 289 last nite vs. Olmsted Falls)..he's going to Northwestern (verballed) as a DB!

RUIT,

Congrats on the Chardon win! Mitch Hewitt will always be one of my fave LBs in BG history and good to see him excelling as a coach and teacher.

My alma mater, Dover Tornadoes, ripped previously undefeated Cambridge, 42-9, at New Phila last night. Dover looked AWESOME! Cambridge was the only team to beat Dover all year (41-35 at Dover). Dover will play the 2 time Div III defending state champ, Steubenville Big Red, Saturday at Fawcett Stadium in Canton. 10 miles down the road from me and we will be there! A trip to the state finals is up for grabs.

We were at the game last night and Dover jumped on Cambridge 21-0 in the first quarter and never looked back.

GO TORNADOES!!!

My high school alma mater wasn't as fortunate this weekend. It's tough to compete against a big time Catholic program such as Kettering Alter when you're just a small town public school like Eaton. Eaton had a good run this year, but just didn't have the depth or the speed that Alter has year after year. Alter has one of those teams with so much depth, they just keep cycling different lines in all game and run the wishbone all day long and just dare you to stop them.

And in a desperate attempt to make this at least vaguely BG related...

Eaton's kicker this year is getting some D1 looks, including Purdue and the Redskinhawks. I wouldn't mind seeing BG give him a look if we didn't already have Big Bird. He's a little guy, relatively speaking, but he's got a leg. I saw 5 games this year and I don't think I saw a single kickoff that wasn't a touchback. One of his kickoffs looked like it went through the uprights from where I was sitting. He was hitting 45-50 yard fg's during warmups and the only one I saw him miss during a game was 53 yards that came up just short.
