Re: Will the townies screw us?
Yeah a bunch of towny business owners like Bill Wammes and Tim Dunn are hoping the Falcons drop sports all together. And rumor has it that head towny, Mayor Quinn, will be hanging a Miami flag on his door and requiring all workers at the city building to wear red on Wednesday.bgsufalcon24 wrote:I must say, the buzz for this Miami-BG game Wednesday night is almost on the range of fanatic. The notices are all over the dorms and the campus buildings, campus organizations are telling their members to go to the game, and professors are even encouraging their students to attend in some cases that I've seen. I have no doubt that the student attendance is going to be through the roof, especially if the weather is good. However, I have one big reservation. Are we going to see any attendance at all from the "townies"? We all know that there is a pretty big rift between the university and the rest of the city of Bowling Green, and that a lot of people in BG root against the Falcons just because they hate the university and college age people in general. Are a lot of them purposely going to stay away Wednesday night just because they want to stick it to us?

Attendance will be "tickets sold."bgsufalcon24 wrote: Are we going to see any attendance at all from the "townies"?
If your so-called townies fail to show, it doesn't matter. Gate is only meaningful in student attendance at this point.

Wow. That's one of the more amazing things I ever read. Lived in BG for 35 years. Plenty of people frustrated by living near college age people. No one ever rooted against the University or stayed away from a game just to "stick it" to the University.bgsufalcon24 wrote:I must say, the buzz for this Miami-BG game Wednesday night is almost on the range of fanatic. I found that post amazing too. Those are pretty harsh words for us townies!!orangeandbrown wrote:bgsufalcon24 wrote:I must say, the buzz for this Miami-BG game Wednesday night is almost on the range of fanatic. "Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Being from Bowling Green, that is the dumbest thing I've ever read on here. And I was alive during the protest era, Poe Ditch Concert, the burning of the Ross Hotel, Heinz, SOP, and the "blue van rapist from toledo."
Has something serious happened since I've been gone?
Re: Will the townies screw us?
Yeah in my four years living off campus I was in constant fear for my safety. So much so that I put bars on my window and invested in an alarm system for my apartment. I still cannot get over all the heckling I got walking down Main street. The town is definitely divided at the tracks.bgsufalcon24 wrote:I must say, the buzz for this Miami-BG game Wednesday night is almost on the range of fanatic. I assume that's sarcasm. Compared to many other rural universities, the town/gown relationship at BG is pretty good and Mayor John Quinn is, on the whole, very intentional about building positive relationships with the University and its students.
There are some "townies" that hold some animosity towards the university, but I think it's safe to say the vast majority of people who live in Bowling Green realize that almost the entire economy is supported by the university and its students and realize that their fate and the university's fate is intertwined.

Re: Will the townies screw us?
The "townies" as you put it will support BGSU. They always have, are now, and always will. That being said, what they don't support are students acting like assholes and making a lot of noise at 3in the morning. They do not support waking up on Friday morning, Saturday morning, and Sunday morning each weekend to find their lawn littered with beer cans, and other things that belong in the trash or toilet. There are some who are not BGSU fans, and that is their right. But those who are BGSU fans are some of the most loyal we have and many have not taken or taught a single class here. Tho question their loyalty with only baseless claims is crazy.bgsufalcon24 wrote:I must say, the buzz for this Miami-BG game Wednesday night is almost on the range of fanatic. Yeah, this post was totally and completely out of line. A retraction is in order. Outrageous, I would call it.
Some of you want to sit here and debate who is the problem with attendance (students/townies/etc.), but no one seems to want to debate who might be the solution. I assure you that the solution is not represented by either the student or civilian population of Bowling Green, Oh...
