Dream with me........

From time to time, I get lost in my own thoughts. I'm always thinking, it seems.
Today, whilst cleaning the floors, I was ponding the current arrgument of "facilities" and the need to have a new bball arena, hockey arena, and an update Doyt.
What would happen if they happened all at the same time? What would happen if you would rebuild the stands as a part of buildings. The football stands would have to be double tier and at more of abaseball angle than a football one.
The West stands would also have a hockey arena. The East stands would have a the bball arena. The south would offer the practice facilities for all three sports, perhaps.
Benefits, you kill a ton of birds with one very large rock. For each side of stands, your sharing vending facilities. Also sharing would be restauants, lounges, office space. You also creat a HUGE magnet for regaional activities (sport, professional, and academic) as well.
The drawbacks: That's one hell of a huge project.
I'm interested to hear thoughts on this. Again, just dreaming. I'm interested in hearing Tech's reaction to this pipe dream as well.
Discuss.

Hmmm...very interesting RUIT. Never thought of it that way. I'll step back and ponder this and see if anyone has some thoughts. Intriguing to say the least.

I think it's a good idea RUIT. I've always envied UM's setup with all of their sporting venues in one large "sports complex" type place. They didn't go so far as joining them together (a lot of their facilities are older), but still a pretty cool idea.
The fact is the Doyt is aging, Anderson is a total dive, and the Ice Arena could use an upgrade as well. All those facilities are nearing the same age, and will need some major money/work done to them. If we could find the money to build a facility like you suggest it would be awesome. Still, I don't think we'll ever get that kind of cash to do it all as one large project.

i think you would make the doyt very inflexible with that plan. capacity would be pretty locked in.

Agreed, but I believe it could be done as a three stager.
Again, I was just thinking this through.
Tech would be able to give a decent idea of the price scope of something like this. If it comes in at about 100mil, I believe it's a win if designed properly.
There's another REALLY whacky idea I had along with this as well. I'll share that as I tighten up the design of it.

I did ponder expansion potential and you're right that it would be very limited. However, I believe we could get anywhere between 35 to 40K with a double tier setup.

Renovate the ice arena and the Doyt. Build the convo center south of the Doyt and connect the whole thing with a series of concourses. Sell the naming rights to the whole thing or pieces of it to corporate sponsorship. Sky Bank Ice arena, Anderson Arena at the Pepsi Complex. Doyt Perry Field at 5/3 Stadium....mmmmmm I smell MONEY
Whore the whole damn thing out, but make it look like one of those $1000 whores Heid Fleiss used to employ. Not one of those $2 whores that work the UT dorms

Locked in yes, but do you really think we would ever need more than 40k? 40k would be about as impressive and big as we could ever get. Hopefully in stating this I jinx us into drawing 50,000 fans to every game for the next 100 years.

As I try to dream your dream RUIT, I find myself inexplicably drawn to a heretofore unnoticed quirk in your acronym. It contains a UT. I like that.
As to the dream it would be very cool and is certainly possible if you move the university to Columbus, L.A., Atlanta, or somepace else with the population to support it. Won't happen in a college town of 20-30,000. It would be very cool, though.

And your user name contains "vile hooter."
I'm not sure I agree with your assesment. 40K may be a bit large for the fb stadium, but I envision hockey arena at a 4K-5K capacity and the bball arena being 5K-6K. The bball arena would be more the multi-purpose facility so the capacity would be slightly more than truly needed for a game.

At first it sounds as if your cheese has slipped off the cracker RUIT. However it does sound pretty cool. I don't if it's possible, but it sounds really cool. We'd be the envy of MAC! I like it. It recieves the "Goofy Seal of Approval"!

i think we ought to leave room for that possibility. 30 years from now, who knows?
