Interesting question to poinder 2007

A major criticisim of the spread offense is that it is effective for 80 yards and loses that same effectiveness in the red zone b/c routes are shorter and there's not as much ground to cover deep.

With the emergence of Bullock, Freddie and possibly converting Jahmal Brown back to his natural running back position or staying with Winovich and Macon. I have to ask . . . Would BG be better off adding a "wishbone" look to offense in the redzone? Thnik of the possibilities of a running QB, 3 potential home run hitters in the backfield and then going 5 wide on the next play. I think if Brandon wants to investigate the possibilities of a power running game from the spread, this has to be a consideration. The possibilities are endless and it would enable us to go with two different looks into each match-up choosing the one which gives us the best advantage a la the Buckeyes 5 wide against Michigan.

Just a thought.

I'm not aware of any discussion re moving Brown to RB...he looks pretty good at safety.

I don't think our problem has been the sets we employ in the redzone, it's been using the tools we have correctly. When you have a good FB, a good TE, a really good posession WR and a QB who can throw (well at times he can) and run. There;s no excuse to be running so many G****mn QB draws consecutively.

I'd love to see the wishbone make a comeback!

There is an excuse to not pass that often, and that is a poor pass blocking line not allowing time. It seems that we have a solid enough line. So i would say we dont have any excuses.

Our two worst coaches may be our two BG alums.

If we refused to be versatile this year in the running game, I have little reason to think we will be before a regime change takes place. We've had the perfect personnel all year for a nice varied spread rush attack and we've barely utilized it.

The Shotgun, 2-back set has been, by far, our most effective and versatile running set the past 2+ seasons, and we use it maybe 5% of the time. I wouldn't get your hopes up for anything else inventive while Stud is the OC.

jamal brown isnt going anywhere but solidifying his spot at safety. Eventhough PJ Mahone was hurt for most of the year, i think Brown was better than him there. He sure as hell proved he could his against ohio state when he stopped pittman in his tracks.
