UT first in nation in 15 yard penalties

Post by cowboyjoe »

Nice to see them get 3 more tonight on national television just adding to their number 1 ranking in that category out of 119 division 1 teams. They had a nice chance to go up 28-0 and a huge cheap shot penalty against one of their lineman gave great field position and momentum. They got lucky on the 15 yarder on a roughing the passer against Turner when the ESPN crew was interviewing ND's coach...national tv couldn't see that one--they just came back and the ball was moved up 15 yards and they said "by the way a late hit on Turner moves the ball up 15 yards".

It's been a hallmark of Amstutz teams unfortunately. Fortunately we played well enough to still win.

Why do you guys think we are just 5-7? 15 yard penalties have killed us. By the way, the replay I saw from the press box looked like the 15 yarder on Adebesin wasn't intentional. It looked like he started to move up field and his legs got tangled up with the BG players legs. Sure a penalty, but not a cheap shot and not intentional.

I wish ESPN2 would have shown a replay. He was going down as he left the frame in the original shot, but it didn't look "uncalled for" or "well after the play" as they described it, and I couldn't tell who he hit or how he did it. ESPN2 had to get back to Lou tickling Mark May's yambag while Charlie Weis whispered to him how he likes it and didn't have time for a replay, I guess.

I couldn't believe how badly UT lost their composure on a few plays right after that, though, with a 21-0 lead. That backup RB took a swing coming out of the pile, then the punch on the punt return. If ever there was a time to point to the scoreboard, that would have been it.
