2007 Outlook ???

Post by Overstreet23 »

This year was not a good year, if you noticed we played poorly overall and only managed to luckily beat a few teams that were worse than us. It's tuff but there needs to be an overhaul or a change in our approach to the game. Our team did not get better it got worse; the mistakes made in the first game against Wisconsin are the same mistakes and calls that were made against Toledo. Where were the improvements? Ok, we lead the MAC in rushing, but I would rather have won the MAC and be going to bowl game instead. The ESPN2 games probably didn't help our recruiting cause either. Lou Holtz was very complimentary of Toledo, if I'm good athlete where would I go, to a program that is on the rise not on a decline. This season would make a great case study or thesis for a Sports Mgt. Program as to what NOT to do with a team.

Offense – Scrap the playbook, create an offense that emphasizes the talents of the players that you have, not the players that want or had in the past. Get an offensive coordinator that can make game time adjustments and understand situational management. Please get a QB that can lead a team.

Defense – The D line should be able to hold it’s own with a couple of new athletes and getting more pressure up-field, this should be the goal, tackles or loss. With T. White gone we’ll need a core of LB’s that can make plays and tackle, with the exception of Dozier these guys are awful, the Akron game and last night are previews of next year. The SS and DB’s make too many tackles, they are young and small they’ll need to learn how to cover the deep routes and taller opponents.

ST – Hire a ‘real’ ST coach that has the understanding and competence to develop a system for the talents that we have. Our poor kickers have taken the blame, but it’s all in how they are taught and coached. Kick-off return, Punt-return, Punt, PAT and FG teams were disasters waiting to happen, and they did all to often.

Coaches – Well I don’t have enough time to write it all, but they leave a lot to be desired. I would like to hear what they are telling the 2007 recruits. The current team has no confidence in them, their approach, their decisions or their ability to inspire the team. A true example of how to loose a team and wreck a program. HELP us Urban!!!
