I am really going to miss seeing Devon Parks play. When he had his motor going, he was a beast and a pleasure to watch. I'm glad to see him get recognized for his performance this year. He was certainly a bright spot on an otherwise gloomy year.

I remember that awesome picture of Devon moments after the Purdue upset was complete...thinking "We have this kid for almost 4 full years!!" My how time flies....Then there was the look on his face in the 2004 GMAC Bowl when Omar stiff armed that Memphis player right off his feet. If you slow motion the tape or dvd during that play, you'll see what I mean.

Devon was a great player for BG.

Does he have a legit NFL chance? Hammb and others that follow the NFL, thoughts? I would think he does.

At 252 Devon is a little light in the pants to be a 4-3 DE. His best asset on the line was his speed and quickness. His first step is very good by MAC standards, but it's not as good as most of the DEs that rely on that attribute in the NFL.

I don't focus on DEs much when I watch the games live, so I cannot really speak to his pass rushing moves. Anyone have any film of this season? I'm curious on his ability to vary his rush moves, counter what the OT does, string moves together, etc. A lot of collegiate DEs rely solely on their speed, and don't develop the moves required to beat NFL level OTs.

My quick guess is that his best bet is as a possible 3-4 OLB. That would require him to run a decent 40, something that makes NFL teams think he can play in space. He'd likely take a couple years to learn the new position, but it probably fits him better than any other spot.

I'll say the same for Devon as I do any other player, he'll get a look. A lot will come down to how well he tests. If he busts off an excellent 40 yard time and good quickness drills, he COULD find himself drafted on the 2nd day by a 3-4 team thinking OLB. Most likely though I think he'll run a 40 time more reminiscent of a DE, and he'll be a UDFA guy. Then it comes down to finding the right place at the right time, and working your tail off to make it. His upside is probably that of a situational pass rusher, but most of those guys had more sacks in college than Parks, so he's definitely climbing an uphill battle. A good 40 time would go a long way to helping his chances, though.
