Suisham a Redskin, Brandon satisfied
Suisham signed with REdskins and Brandon says "I told you so", "Won't let negativism get me down", "kicker needs to grow up and get stronger". Grow up? The guy's 7' tall already. Anyway, all this in the Bland today.

It still doesn't address many of the issues already discussed here that led to this, namely:
1) Why were we in the position in the first place to have to rely on 27 freshmen?
2) Why didn't the returning players develop and improve throughout the course of the year?
3) Why didn't the special teams protection and coverage units, having little or nothing to do with the young kickers, continue to be a weak point game after game?
4) Why couldn't we defeat Temple, a team also playing an exorbitant number of true freshmen in their own rebuilding period?
I'm glad he's optimistic, but privately GB needs to take a good, hard look at these issues that go well beyond youth and get them corrected in time for next year.

More BS.
"I didn't want to go into the season and call it a building year, but that's what it was. I think we were fortunate to win some of those early games, as young as we were."
then he says:
"This team really lacked confidence, you could see that from week to week,"
I wonder why they don't have any confidence, when their head coach thinks they're fortunate to beat 2 of the worst teams in the country.
"We're not even talking about kickoff coverage if our kicker gets the ball into the end zone or out of the back of the end zone," Brandon said.
This pisses me off. Instead of being a man and taking the blame for not properly taking care of coverage, he blames the freshman kicker for not kicking the ball through the end zone every time. Is there a team in the country that hasn't had to cover a kickoff yet this season? I'm gonna guess no. This is getting more and more ridiculous. I'm not confident our special teams is going to improve much if this is STILL his attitude.
"It's my job to get them confident. It was hard to put them in successful situations this year because a lot of them start, and they weren't ready to start, so they got burned."
So close -- he starts to atually take some responsibility, but he can't help but back off of that and play the youth card again.

Joe, good questions. I will continue to stress #1 as my biggest issue. The coach keeps playing the youth card, but we were young because he didn't recruit enough decent players for two straight years.JoeFalcon wrote:It still doesn't address many of the issues already discussed here that led to this, namely:

J4H, this one really stuck with me too. It's like he is saying we don't even pratice kickoff coverage because the kicker is supposed to kick it through the endzone. Hello? McFly? Our kicker doesn't kick it thorugh the end zone. That's a fact. How about we practice kick coverage with some expectations that match reality?Jacobs4Heisman wrote: "We're not even talking about kickoff coverage if our kicker gets the ball into the end zone or out of the back of the end zone," Brandon said.

One other item mentioned in the story is that Bobby Thomas is not expected to return to the team.
Another item that struck me is that one of the areas we are focusing our recruiting on is Def Backs (RBs and LBs were also mentioned). Our two deep depth chart for DBs was two sophomores and six freshman. Not to mention that we keep moving DBs to LBs (Dozier, Hargrove) Is Brandon saying these guys stink and we need to improve? Or are we changing our defensive scheme to play like 6 DBs all the time?
How about focusing on some WRs? We seem to have some issues there.

Yawn.
Another day, another excuse from the coach.
This guy does not have what it takes to run a football program, and we're sticking by him until he turn us into Temple. Worst coach in the conference, one of the worst in all of D1, and we're too cheap to pay the $250,000 buyout? Cannot wait until next year!
It's bad enough I'm a Browns fan, I expect more out of BG.

I feel ya on the Browns thing. However, at the same time shouldn't being a Browns fan have conditioned you over time to put up with this mess?hammb wrote:Yawn.

LOL. Yeah, you're probably right. It has conditioned me to it for the NFL, but I have higher expectations for BG. I know the Browns will be awful, but I watched this BG program rise from the crapper, and it pains me to see them back in the crapper.

Sorry but the lid on my box just cracked open for a second. But it is getting REAL LOOSE.
Pop Quiz? What was the NEW RULE for NCAA Football in 2006 whose SOLE PURPOSE WAS TO LIMIT THE NUMBER OF TOUCHBACKS?!!?!We're not even talking about kickoff coverage if our kicker gets the ball into the end zone or out of the back of the end zone," Brandon said.

Didn't they lower the tee?
edit: winner winner, chicken dinner:
2. Kicking tee (Rule 2-15-4-c)
Change: A kicking tee may not elevate the ball's lowest point more than 1 inch above the ground.
Rationale: Enacted to reduce the number of touchbacks and increase the number of kickoff returns, this rule change will also help prepare players for the pro game, which uses the lower tee.
So Brandon knew before the season started that there would be fewer touchbacks. I smell something.

Just when the dust had settled and everybody's anger had subsided for the off-season, Brandon has to stir things back up again.
It is amazing that he says such ridiculous things. It is amazing that he doesn't understand that the things he says are ridiculous. Every word he said convinced me even further that we are headed straight into the toilet if he stays for 2 more years.
Someone please offer this guy an OC gig NOW!!!!!!
