Chryst on bowls:

Post by Schadenfreude »

On WSPD, he just said there is a possibility that a couple of conference may fall short of their bowl commitments, and he's working to see if the MAC fits in some place.

If anyone can work something out, Chryst can.

I like Rick Chryst, but he got out-maneuvered last year. Let's hope he does better now that he has more potential opportunities.

He was at our game today and on our side a good share of the time.

Again, this team is too good to sit at home this year. We might even be better than we were last year. If not, we're just as good.

One more win and we are bowl eligible!

Has anyone done a count on how many teams there are left who are bowl eligible even today?

As for better than last year, that remains to be seen. If we win out, I will concede this team is at least as good as last year's team. If we beat Marshall and @ Toledo, (and that's a tall order) then we're 9-2, and that's pretty good.

No doubt. I agree it's still a little to early to tell. But we sure look as good, don't we.

There will have to be less bowl eligible teams this year because there are only 11 games. Teams like Kansas and Northwestern who went 6-6 last year may end up 5-6 this year without that extra game

It looks like the Pac-10 may fall two teams short of their alloted bowls, and ConvictUSA and the Big11 may fall one short. It's a little early to be sure but the one less game this year should mean that fewer teams are bowl eligible.

Not figuring in conference affiliations and just counting wins, there are 21 teams that have 6 or more wins already, 18 teams that have 5 wins, 22 teams that have 4 wins, and 25 that have 3 wins.

That makes 86 teams that *could* be bowl eligible, although I'm guessing alot of the 3 win teams will be eliminated by playing other 3-win or better teams in their conference. At least 4 or 5 of those teams are from the Sun Belt, which I think we can all agree is a one bid conference, so that takes a bunch of schools out as well.

Of course, all my counting means nothing if we don't win out!

If I am not mistaken, the rule is 6 I-A wins, right?

Note--actually looked this up. You can count one I-AA win every four years, which few if any teams have probably invoked.

I also just realized that there are two more teams in 1-a this year though. So that makes more possible teams to finish with 6 wins. I just want to finish to the season with 2 losses. Three straight years of having three losses, its time to better that. And we should

Chryst! Chryst! He's our man! If he can't do it....we're screwed.

Consider how this gets even more interesting after the Toronto Bowl is in place next year?
