Game impressions.
Omar's numbers were great, and the scary thing is that with a couple of more accurate throws, they could have been historic. OU was supposed to have a hot D, but he picked them apart.
*Love the weird formation at the beginning. Don't know what it accomplished.
*OU band was awesome. Only difference between OU and BG of the Blackney era is the fans in Athens leave right after the halftime show, not before it. "Play the funky music" with the alumni band was awesome.
*Hocking valley is lovely in Fall, and the campus is spectacular. Its their bicentennial.
*Coach Knorr said on the post-game show he wanted to make us one-dimensional--ie stop the run. I can't understand this. If you sell out to stop the run, we will pick you apart. What you have to be able to do is stop the run with your base D.
*Our seats were right over the door to the Falcon locker room. On the way into the locker room at the half, Stud was absolutely ripping Rob Warren. "You're getting the sh*t kicked out of you on every play." He repeated this several times. Actually, when he is POed, his voice gets all squeaky. It was kind of funny.
*Great FG for Shawn Suisham. I was very critical of Shawn last year, but he has been money this year (FG and Kos), and the 52 yarder was awesome.
*OU tackled better than we did.
*OU failed to run for 100 yards, even if you add back the sacks and the 15 they lost on the punt over the QB's head.
*Hawk missed some wide open passes when the right play was called, and he just didn't convert. Its been a long time at BG since we have had a QB who doesn't hit the wide open guy almost every time. He came close to having more receiving yards (29) than passing yards (45).
*Cole is still not entirely healthy. He was limping heading into the locker room at the half.
*Give OU credit for the punt block and the onside kick, and give our guys credit for nipping it in the bud.

He's not going to be until after the season is over.

Radio thoughts from Athens
Just want to mention that I thought the OU radio guys (105.5 FM) did a great job calling the game. I listened to it down there while at the game and those guys REALLY were impressed with BG's team. They went on and on about what things we were doing well thoughout the game. The said several times that this was the BEST team OU has played all year, bar none!! I didn't feel like I was listening to a homer game broadcast at all. I almost felt like I was listening to a BG broadcast. It was nice to get the props, though OU fans might have gotten tired of the BG lovefest they kept hearing!!Schadenfreude wrote:The Clear Channel team had the same impression.truth wrote:wbgu's announcer said they didn't think the onside kick went 10 yds before it was touched by ou... good call by coach knorr, but bad f up by the refs if that was indeed the case.
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

It went atleast 10, maybe 10. I yelled at the officials and everything for it at the game because I didn't want them getting the ball back, but in all honesty, it did go the 10 yards.rc_ziggy84 wrote:We were sitting right on the 40. It didn't go 10 yards. It barely made it 5.
"To the optimist, the glass is half full. To the pessimist, the glass is half empty. To the project manager, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be."
That kick went more than 10 yards from my vantage point. Did anyone else notice how the OU defensive backs interefered on just about every pass play. It was all they could do to keep up. The refs let them get away with a lot.McMetz811 wrote:It went atleast 10, maybe 10. Re: Game impressions.
I have to agree with all of these. I had a WONDERFUL time in Athens this weekend! I was brave and sat in the student section with my friends that go to OU and I didn't get bugged too much for my orange and brown. In fact, most of them were there to see the band and didn't care about the game...which is sad but from what I've been told that's how every game is pretty much. And watching the "fans" file out after halftime and not come back, I knew it was true.orangeandbrown wrote:Omar's numbers were great, and the scary thing is that with a couple of more accurate throws, they could have been historic. Re: Game impressions.
I have always been against the odd-ball sort of formations like that one that we sometimes break out. I think we're good enough to line-up, call just about any play in an ordinary formation, and run it effectively against these pitiful MAC teams. I think running a formation like that would give me confidence as the opposing team. I would think "hey, they don't think they can run their normal offense against us. They have to run trick stuff to beat us." I'd rather just run our normal offense and win 50-2. I think Stud may get bored with that, though. Just my two cents.orangeandbrown wrote:*Love the weird formation at the beginning. Don't know what it accomplished.

"We have been talking about doing that for a while," Brandon said. "We figured we would try it on the road against a good defense. It's just something fun for the kids."
That was a quote from an article in today's Toledo Bland. Let the kids have some fun with it. They deserve it. They have been playing well the past few weeks. The link to the complete article is here:

To me it seemed like that play was some type of inside joke? First play it didn't work we were done with it.BGGrad01 wrote:I have always been against the odd-ball sort of formations like that one that we sometimes break out.
