game times

a...a controversy free post....wow

my friend from toledo and i were discussing that bg seems to play earlier game times now then they used to, why is that? is it just me or is 7 oclock kickoff MUCH better then a noonish start time? A: FACE IT alot of ppl watch ohio state, and that conflicts with bg games alot, which i imagine hurts attendance from the casual fan. a 7 start time would help with that since ohio plays earlier usually. the casual fan can be watching osu on tv, think "id kinda like to see more football" and mosey over to the doyt. B: TAILGATING. i hate...let me repeat HATE tailgating at 10 am. as a self-respecting bg student i like to have a few...uhm...refreshments before the game and nothing sucks more then getting in the "game mood" and having to go home at 4, buzz slowly diminishing, friends dropping like flys around you before you go out to the bars at 9. during the 7 oclock games it was just one long party parking lot to game, game to party or junction/bdubs/brat but it seems more recently the games have been of the earlier variety. anyone notice this/agree?

I'm partial to 4 p.m. starts, only because 7 p.m. starts mean an awful late night for Noah. As he gets older, I'm sure the later starts will have more appeal.

4 pm starts are not excellent 1987

I do not make any home games which is not good but I would think scheduling as far away as possible from the OSU start would be the ideal thing to do. I know it sucks to say that but that is the nature of the beast we are dealing with. i would also NEVER schedule Toledo v BG Fall Break weekend. How hard is it to move that back a weekend (Now that I think about it impossible right due to the championship game.) Could something be worked out there?

hell ill admit im an osu fan, as are half of the bg fans i know, most of us grew up in little red jerseys sitting next to our dads watching football on saturdays but honestly rarely do i have a conflict there. however, id rather go to a game then sit inside and watch one but its hard to get ppl out when osu is making a championship run.

4:00 start times work too, i just dont like the 12 or 1 starts that we've been getting lately.

as for bg toledo, im kinda glad its not where it used to be the day before thanksgiving since i go to michigan with the family every year at that time. i never got to go to one of our biggest games until they moved it, and since then we havnt won

oh well. soon.

We don't schedule the Toledo game during fall break. Never have, never will. In recent years, the Toledo game has been the final game of the regular season.

That helps to explain the intermingling of Ohio and OSU in your post. I don't think we need to worry about Ohio schedules their games (now the Bobkitty may disagree with me on this one, but they have to win the MACC for me to worry about his opinion).

Out of our 5 (including Wisconsin) home games from last fall, 2 of those games were early afternoon games. 1 was family weekend, which is generally a 4:00 game. Who knows why that game was played at 1:00. The other was Buffalo, which was moved up to avoid a conflict with the Columbus State/Texas game that night. The others were at 4:00 (1) and 7:00 (2). I think our athletic department bends over backwards scheduling times for the Buckeye fan portion of our fan base. Early afternoon games are very rare at the Doyt anymore.

I like the 4:00 kickoffs personally. They allow for plenty of tailgating and at least a portion of the game is played under sunlight.

I talked to someone in the athletic department last Fall and it is a fact that we schedule our game times with the Ohio State gametime in mind.

FWIW, do we ever have 7:00 starts? I'm thinking our 'night' games usually start at 6:00.

When the weather is still decent, I much prefer the late start. It allows you to get some things done in the morning and still partake in the revelry of tailgaiting. And with three kids now ages 9 to 13, they have plenty of activities on Saturday morning/afternoon. The late starts help me avoid having to choose between my kid's event or the BG game. But come November, it can get pretty cold in the evening. An afternoon start (3:00) would be my prefernce then.

No, no, no. That gametime was changed in interest of community spirit so that fans could partake in the festivities of the Black Swamp Arts Festival that evening.

I like the 6pm starts. Full day of tailgating, setting sun for the first half and under the lights for the second half.

The starting time topic has been discussed ad nauseum and is no longer of any interest to me. I just want the weather to be nice

I think he meant "Fall Break" as "Thanksgiving Break", not the long weekend the kiddies now apparently need five weeks into classes.

Nope, not anymore. There's now a three or four day weekend in early October called "Fall Break". Last year ('05), the MAC scheduled us at home vs. Ohio that weekend.

I'm with ya. I cannot believe they got a potential hall of fame hitter for Humberto Sanchez. Good riddance to that "prospect". The dude had been a hot prospect for his entire minor league career and had never really put together a good season. Always a thrower, never a pitcher. Then last year he finally looks like he's figured it out and he has elbow issues? See ya, couldn't get rid of him fast enough. He was a "prospect" whose value in a trade was far greater than his potential.
