the same thing kinda happened to me when i visited...although i wasnt being persued for athletics... but when my parents and i visited my parents fell in love with the place because anyone we crossed paths with said hello...one thing i always liked about this campus...people are friendly.

This was very much the case with Corey. The place felt good and the people were like family. That made the final decision for him.

I know the Winovichs have always said that Bowling Green was like the town from the tv show/movie Pleasantville. "Everybody is so nice" is what I heard from them.

I remember running in to Mr. Winovich at Meijer prior to the UT game Pete's freshman year. We were both looking for those heat pack things to put in your pockets (turns out the game was played at 60 degrees at the glass bowl). I probably added to his perception as I recognized his name on his jacket and struck up a conversation about Pete, who was only a freshman but a guy I had tabbed during the recruiting stages. Nice guy.

And he's from the area that I grew up in! In addition, don't we have a JC punter coming from Harper College? Harper is right next door to Schaumburg in Palatine. Its cool that we can get kids from this area away from NIU.

It's interesting to see that the "hominess" of BG is still an impactful reason for coming here....waaaaay back when (1957 to be exact), when a few classmates and I visited the campus, the first words to us were, " this is a friendly campus...make sure that you say hi to people as you walk around". Lo and behold, we must've had at least 10 students say hi to us as we wandered the campus. Must've made a pretty good impression as FIVE of the TWENTY-FIVE students in my graduating class wound up attending BG!

Nice story, there. 3.4 GPA and a 26 on his ACT...sounds like a solid student as well.
