Vanguard strong safety Glen Stanley verbally committed to Bowling Green State University Thursday, choosing the Mid-American Conference program over Bethune-Cookman, FAMU, South Florida and FIU.
Stanley is the eighth local product to verbally commit to play college football, and the second headed to BGSU, joining Dunnellon offensive lineman Josh Dodge.
"I'm looking forward to playing in the MAC," said Stanley, who is the cousin of former Vanguard receiver Kelvin Davis, a 2006 BGSU signee. "I've got some family up there, so it should be a good fit."
At 6-foot-2, 210 pounds, Stanley is projected to play outside linebacker in college.
"They said I'd probably move to linebacker," Stanley said. "You see guys who go to college weighing 200 pounds and leave weighing 240, so they plan to put some weight on me.
"They wanted a guy who could run sideline to sideline and make plays."
Stanley played his sophomore and junior seasons at Trinity Catholic where he won a state championship in 2005.
He transferred to Vanguard as a senior and posted 77 tackles, including 13 tackles for loss. He also intercepted a pass, blocked a punt and recovered three fumbles.
