NE Ohio standout LB Darren Branch may be headed to BG. I am not sure of any newspaper etc confirmation, but a Cleveland area BG backer says Branch may be on the list tomorrow.

He is a 6 1/230 LB/DE type player from Twinsburg HS SE of Cleveland. I am also told he is a fine athlete and quite a contributor in track. As always, if this is indeed posted somewhere, my apologies.

I guess we will know tomorrow for sure.

Go Falcons!

I was driving back from Lansing today, and heard Tom Lemming, the recruiting guru, on a Cincinnati station, 1530 I believe, and he specifically mentioned Miami, NIU and Bowling Green as having good recruiting years in the MAC.
He also has Urban Liar with the top recruiting class in the nation, and NO Big Ten teams in the top 10. Antother interesting point he made, was that he said the MAC and Big Ten are getting close in recruiting. He said if you take OSU, Michigan and Penn State out of the mix it is even right now. He also said it was a very down year in Ohio and the midwest in general, for overall talent, and that is why he had OSU ranked so low.
Just amybe Coach Brandon knows what he is doing and not taking the OSU leftovers this year, because they were few and far between. Lemming also mentioned that the QB that Miami is sgetting was his top ranked QB in Ohio.

This is actually something that I wanted to post and haven't had the chance. I was pretty vocal that I thought we weren't recruiting heavily enough in Ohio. However, after looking a little closer at the recruiting scene it appears that it is a VERY weak class for Ohio. After the big boys got their cut it doesn't look like there is a whole lot of talent left to really be that disappointed about missing.

I'm still not convinced that coach Brandon's staff has recruited Ohio as well in the last 5 years as they should have, but this particular season there just isn't as much Ohio talent as there usually is.

I like what we've done in Michigan. Burrell, Johnson, Hutson and Bojicic all made one of the two top 50 lists published by the state's two real newspapers

And it is considered a good year for Michigan HS football.

Branch was a member of the Ted Ginn bus tour of Cleveland-area players that made a stop at BG over the summer. I hope that he signs.

Big-time RB recruit Mark Wooldridge of Walsh Jesuit was also a participant.

Hammb,

That is interesting to hear. Kenny Roda had a recruiting dude on today and I can't remember who it was. But, he did say NEXT year looks to be a banner year for OH recruiting. That leads me to believe this year's OH class wasn't as good as years past. Let's face it...the BCS boys will almost always get the gems. Maybe there wasn't much left, like you said.

I haven't really looked into it much, but I heard someone say that OSU didn't fill all their schollies this year, because next year's Ohio class is supposed to be LOADED.

According to what I heard on the radio, OSU's rising Sr. class is VERY SMALL, due in part to Jrs. leaving etc. I'm sure...and they wanted to save some scholarships for next year...but if you're right, Mike, that OHIO is loaded next year, that's probably part of it too.
