I, like most of you, was disappointed and angry at Urban Meyer because of when and how he left BGSU. I too took to calling him Urban Leyer.
However, my anger and anomosity has now been replaced with a much different feeling and that is one of thanks. I emailed Meyer when he was at BG because during the national coverage he initiated for us, he also stated in USA Today article that we weren't going to compete for a BCS spot. I believe if he had stayed around that what he's doing in Utah could have been done at Bowling Green.
I know he left us on bad terms and in a very disingenous(sp?) way. At the time and for a long while after he left, I felt that since he didn't accomplish anything (Conference Title or Bowl Game) of substance that he failed in every way imaginable and should have at least accomplished one of those two feats before departing.
However, recently I have had a change of heart. Bowling Green's Football Program is in a place it's never been. Thanks to a very good athletic department, Coach Brandon and all of his players and staff, Bowling Green Falcon Football is a force to be reckoned with. This outstanding website is visited by many people on a daily basis because of BG's success. This amazing transformation of our program is due mainly to the efforts of Coach Meyer. I understand the continued anger and disappointment in how and when he handled his departure. But I am really grateful for putting BG football on the map and now wish him only success in his coaching endeavors. We would not be where we are today if not for Coach Meyer. The fact is too, within five years the guy is going to win a national championship and I'd rather root for him now than jump on the bandwagon later.
Bowling Green, the new cradle for coaches.
Here's to keeping Coach Brandon around for at least another two years!
Go Falcons!
