Boise State OFF schedule?

Good chance we won't be playing the Buckin' Broncos this fall - if we look what Coach Brandon "hinted" at during the recruiting party.
Question:
"How bad are we gonna beat Boise State this year, Coach?"
GB Answer:
"Well, I really can't comment on that. Let's just say that we may not have a chance to find out come fall."
Hmmmmmmm!!!

After last season, I think it was pretty much a foregone conclusion that Boise State wouldn't be coming here in the Fall.

I mentioned this on another thread, after some people had alluded to the possibility of Boise being gone...According to a highly placed member of the Ath. Dept. that I talked with at Women's Bball game (vs. UT), the Boise game is NO MORE.... ESPN or someone obviously thought the Broncos were pretty hot news and offered them a deal...that said good bye BG...
BUT, I also said I'm not assuming anything, despite this info., until I actually see a schedule in place.

That's all well and good if Boise State got a deal, but what do WE get out of it?
IF this is true, the way our "contracts" have been handled (by our control and mostly otherwise) needs to be seriously reviewed. And that doesn't even begin to get into how I feel about ESPN controlling scheduling, even beyond Tuesday night games.

Not at all surprised, but it is still a bummer. Do we even get a dime a dime from them?

Yeah, thats what I'd like to know as well. We're here getting screwed out of a good non-conference game and we're gonna get left with nothing? This is BullSh*t!

Frankly, I think it will be good for this team to get an OOC game that is a gimmee on its schedule. I don't mind replacing Boise with Florida International--because we are already playing Navy, BC and Minnesota.

If we come out strong next year and the team is back where it was in '03 and '04, then I will be upset about not playing Boise. If we come out the same way we did this year, that gimme game would be nice to have. I'd really like to see what exactly it is that we are getting from Boise since they are not honoring the home and home contract.

I haven't heard anything about that possibility. I had heard that ESPN was trying to put a game together for BSU.
Here is what I know about BSU's 2007 OCC schedule:
We get up to 5 OOC games this year because we play at Hawaii. For those that don't know, there is a Hawaii rule that allows any team that plays @ UH to play an extra OOC game to make up for the travel expenses.
We are scheduled to play:
Weber State (a local 1AA) @ BSU
@ Washington
@ BGSU
Wyoming @ BSU
and an another MAC team @ BSU. This is part of the deal from last year where BSU agreed to play @ Utah so that OHIO could replace Utah another team.
The local media has reported that ESPN was trying to put together a made for TV game vs a BCS team @ BSU.
The BGSU gasme has never been mentioned as a game that might be replaced. Either the game vs Weber or the additional MAC team are the only games that have been talked about being changed. The additional MAC game seemed to be the most likely (since no one even knows who the opponant is) and the Weber game seems second most likely because the ESPN game was rumored to be the first game of the year. Weber St is currently supposed to be our first game.
I would hate to see the BG game changed. I have been planning on going to that game since it was first announced. I have people in that area that I would like to visit and my dad spent much of his youth in Ohio. I have only been there once in my life and it was many years ago.

Thanks for the input SD. It makes sense, and could be part of the confusion in ohio about whether this game will be played. In terms of earning more Nat'l exposure/credit it seems that it would be a better move to drop the 1-AA game. While it is OK for BCS teams to schedule them, I'm sure talking heads would knock your schedule when bowl talks come around.

We'd love to have you and your team come out. Please stop by and say HI!

I know the last thing most of us want is for the NCAA to create more rules for college athletics, but maybe the this is an issue the NCAA needs to address, if they are not all ready. Should there be some type of punishment or penalty for a team that backs out of a contract for a game or series? I don't know what the penalty should be, but it seems that this is getting out of hand and leaving some schools in tough situations to find replacement games.

I talked with a person associated with BG Athletics just the other day and was told to expect FIVE home games for the 2007 season. Hmmmm.....
I sure want SIX home games....
