It seems that the MAC is having scheduling problems for the upcoming season.

• I don’t know about you, but I’m not exactly enthused about Boise State’s men’s basketball game with NAIA Montana-Western tonight at Taco Bell Arena.
The Broncos were in a tough spot after the Colorado State game was postponed and did the best they could. Colleague Nick Jezierny did a good job explaining the Broncos’ predicament.
BSU, which has won two straight games, will use the game as a way to keep its momentum going.
But that doesn’t mean we have to be excited about it. Montana-Western is 7-19 overall and 1-9 in the Frontier Conference. The game counts as an exhibition for the Bulldogs.
It should be an exhibition for the Broncos, too.
• The Boise State basketball team isn’t the only team with scheduling issues. The WAC football schedule still has not been released, keeping fans on edge and speculating.
Boise State has been rumored to play every Division I-A team in the nation from Southern California to Buffalo. In the absence of real information, fans will throw just about anything against the wall and hope it sticks.
Here’s what we know right now:
Boise State’s game at Bowling Green and Idaho’s home game with Eastern Michigan are in trouble because of MAC scheduling problems.
Boise State could play Hawaii on Thanksgiving weekend.
BSU beat writer Chadd Cripe is working the story. Check out IdahoStatesman.com throughout the day and Wednesday’s editions of the Idaho Statesman for more details.[/b]• The San Diego Chargers fired Marty Schottenheimer on Monday night.
I would do all I could to hire the recently "retired" Bill Parcells, who — I’m guessing — would love one more shot with a very, very good team.
From the Hawaii paper:
The University of Hawai'i should be able to announce its long-awaited football schedule this week, possibly as soon as tomorrow, and will immediately tie it in with a stepped-up season ticket campaign, school and conference officials said yesterday.
Western Athletic Conference commissioner Karl Benson said the conference is waiting for the schedules of three schools to be finalized. Benson said he was asked to hold three UH dates — Sept. 1, Sept. 8 and Nov. 24 — open while the conference is also waiting on one game each from Boise State and Idaho. As late as last week Southern California and Michigan were still possibilities for UH, which will play a 13-game regular season schedule. But UH athletic director Herman Frazier said Michigan, which had initiated contact, has since broken off talks.
Frazier said UH may have to go on the road for one of the three remaining games and another will be against a Division I-AA opponent.
The conference office has been in discussion with the schools and ESPN since the network tendered its "wish" list of games Feb. 1.
John McNamara, UH associate athletic director, said once the conference schedule is finalized the school will announce a "ramped up" plan for season ticket sales to capitalize on the surge in interest from an 11-3 finish and return of quarterback Colt Brennan.
"We're responding to what a lot of people wanted," McNamara said.
McNamara said the new plan will speed up by "as much as three or four weeks" compared to the previous process. In recent years renewals have begun in late March or April and sales to new customers haven't begun until June. McNamara said UH plans to begin renewals later this month. He said current season ticket holders would still be the first accommodated under the new plan.
If the football ticketing plan works out, McNamara said, "it is something we will potentially integrate with some of our other sports if there is a demand when they are coming off a great season."

I swear to you right now that if we lose the Boise St game again this year because of MAC scheduling problems, I propose that we f the MAC and play this season as an independent.SDbronco wrote:Here’s what we know right now:

Why the MAC keeps screwing around with messing up games against "THE" mid-major of the past couple years, as well as a decent game with another solid mid-major conference (I'd say EMU-Idaho is a decent matchup for both sides...exposure in a different area of the country and a potential win against another 1-A school), I don't know.
I'd like to think Karl Benson would do what he could to boost the MAC, with his roots and all, but either he's not trying that, or the MAC is really fouling up the gears...

My friend, unfortunately, I'm inclined to believe the latter scenario. There have been times over the past couple of days that I can't believe how quickly I have totally lost faith in the leadership being expressed by the conference.TG1996 wrote:

this certainly seems to be a big scheduling quagmire. and that's not a good kind of quagmire.
this is a good kind of quagmire:
the scheduling quagmire is a bad, bad quagmire.
but honestly, would a game against boise state draw much local interest? would it be a tough sell to casual fans for BGSU to play another non-bcs team, and one from as far away as idaho?
there was a lot of interest in boise when BGSU came out to play, in part because we got a chance to see omar jacobs. just curious if a BSU/BGSU matchup would be a sellout.
i sure hope it happens...

I don't think we'd see a sellout, unless it was a nice day and the first home game of the year (I don't think it is), but it would be one of our larger crowds, just for the season you guys had last year. Then again, I can never figure our scheduling patterns out, so I'm going to stop trying.
Giggity.

Well, I've casually mentioned the game to a few people where I go to school (about 2 hours north of BG) and have had many inquiries about when tickets go on sale.1boisebro wrote:this certainly seems to be a big scheduling quagmire. and that's not a good kind of quagmire.
