Suisham for Groza award?

Looking over the stats...Suisham has a good chance at being a Lou Groza Award finalist: 8-10 of field goals, 16 touchbacks, a 52-yard field goal, and he's on track to break a MAC scoring record.

The other three guys that have a chance of winning are Mason Crosby (Colorado), Matt Payne (BYU), Reagan Schneider (UTEP), and Mike Nugent (OSU).

I think Crosby is the leader right now...because of his heroics a couple weeks back when he kicked a 60-yard field goal (But that was at high elevation). Payne also kicks up in the Mountains (so his stats are bloated). I think Nugent is a good kicker as well, but their is a rumor going around that he uses a "special kicking ball" for all of his attempts.

The last guy Schneider, has missed a couple PATS.

Suisham's improvements from last year should put him among the nation's best! I still don't know what happened but he's just incredible out there this year. Maybe it has something to do with Erin  Seeing any player from BG win an award is great so if he gets it, more power to him!

Suisham has really picked up the pace this year...He should be All MAC and a Groza finalist at the rate he's going.

That 52 yarder at Ohio was great....

There is some kid named Nugent at a school in Ohio that has done ok this year as well. :-\

I think Suisham has a real shot at all-MAC.

If the Buckeyes can keep from imploding, it will be hard to ignore Nugent for the Groza, IMHO. He's hit a few very clutch kicks and is his team's most consistent offensive weapon.

Suisham is just another one of BG's great kickers:

Derek Schorejs, Brian Leaver, Gehad Youssef, Jason Strasser, Cris Shale, Andy Pollock...the list continues.

It's amazing that a such a small school has had so many great specialists.

p.s. - Seeing both Nugent and Suisham kick in person...they are equal in strength and talent level. Nugent has just had the opportunity to kick longer field goals this season.

Expos79:

I'm not saying Nugent is better or stronger. But he's certainly been more important to his team. No offense to Shaun, but if he missed every kick, we wouldn't be much worse for the wear. Nugent misses one or two, and the Buckeyes are entrenched in the Bottom 10. Fair or not, that plays a role in such awards.

I am dissappointed you forgot former Montreal Expos infielder, Bowling Green native, and former Falcon punter Andy Tracy.

Perhaps you are Expos79 for another reason?

I actually never heard of Andy Tracy...seriously.

..and yes, Nugent has made many clutch kicks...but ABILITY-wise Suisham and Nugent are the same

Jason Strasser is one of my all time fave kickers from BG. He was simply deadly from 40 on in. Not the strongest leg but accurate as heck.

Andy Tracy was traded from the Expos to the Rockies this past season. See other sports thread for more info on Tracy.
