Slight problem with coaching staff

Post by BGfootballfan »

There is a problem with the coaching staff for the upcoming season. Once again, NO SPECIAL TEAMS COACH!! Does Coach Brandon really not get it how many wins this area of the game has cost us over the last few years? C'mon Coach, at least act like you think Special Teams is important. Maybe, Hammb or someone can volunteer for position. I would be willing to.

The best line I heard last year was during the Akron game. A couple of gents were sitting several rows back behind Freak and I. When BG was setting up for yet another punt that day we heard this:

"Well, this is always an adventure. You just have to hope for the best....."

That is a very funny line. I think that's how we all felt.

I don't know much about STs. Certainly not enough to fix our problems.

The problems with our coaching staff lie with the HMFIC. Until he's replaced our football program is screwed. I think I've pretty much given up hope on improvement while he's here.

There is word that there may be someone that is already in our program that will be taking the special team duties. I wont say who yet, because I am not positive, but I am sure they will make it public in the near future. And the guy I am talkin about is not one of the coaches from last year or any of the new guys...but again, this is not for sure....and to be honest, I am not real happy if it is true.....I will leave it at that for now...

I have heard about the person within also...
Hope it isn't true. That would be a horrible hire.

Well if its the same person I am thinking of, lets keep our fingers crossed that Gregg Brandon has some clue of whats best for the team and hires someone else.

It’s amazing to think about how quickly our special teams have turned into a disaster. We’ve had outstanding place-kickers in recent history such as Brian Lever, Derek Schorejs and Shaun Suisham and punters like Chris Shale and Pat Fleming. But now, I’d take anyone just half as good as some of these guys. In the past two seasons, there isn't anything more nerve-racking associated with BG football than watching our special teams try to convert a field goal or PAT, get off a punt, or cover a kickoff or punt return. It’s crazy how many people in the stands are also aware of this too (and how could they not be!). When our special teams come out onto the field, if you look around at the crowd, it’s hard to tell if our fans are watching a football game or surgery. There are people holding their breath, turning away because they’re afraid to watch, or even praying. And hell, I’m right there with them!

How about this: Every ST play, the entire line sets up, and as the ball is hiked, they all jump up and scream like little girls, as loud as they can. The shear freak-out quality alone should throw the other team off balance.

Meanwhile, Football fans could adopt an old tradition that we used to have at the hockey games (Section E, I have video and pictures if illustrations are needed.) As the team head to the huddle on punt, PAT, kick-off, or FG attempts, have somebody take bets as to if they get blocked, shank, bounce off the goal posts, etc.

At hockey, we used to take bets on the exhibition skater, as to how many times she would wobble on her skates, and how many times she would fall to the ice. The actual routine would be punctuated with whhoooooooaaaas, hoops, and cheers when they did fall. Ahhhh, hockey. And when an entire skate team was on the ice.......
