Screwed up results

Post by hammb »

Wow, guys. So I'm playing NCAA 2005 last night and I beat up real bad on the EMUs and slipped past WMU after Omar went down early with back spasms. This moved me to 8-1 on the season (this is the 2005 season). I still have to play Marshall & UT, but I'm feeling pretty good about my chances for the MAC. So I started looking around the stats and what not. For starters Chuck Sharon is the leading guy in the WR of the year race and Omar is #2 for QBs. Both are on the Heisman watch list right now.

However, I decided to look at the standings and see who I might be facing in the MACC game, and much to my surprise BUFFALO was 10-0! They were ranked like #13 or #15 (I'm #19) in the country! BUFFALO! I was shocked. I'm curious to see if they're really that good when I play them in the MACC game, assuming I don't choke against UT or Marshall (who didn't leave the MAC :().

Man this is a great game.

Yeah, I have two dynasties running; I'm in the early part of year 2 with BG, playing the games. I'm a decade into another dynasty where I simulate the season and only do recruiting, scheduling, redshirting and strategy. In both instances, Buffalo and Kent State have gotten an awful lot of love; so has Rice for that matter. In fact, in the latter dynasty, Rice played in the national title game ... two years in row.

Notwithstanding, I've officially decided to change my career goal. I want to get paid to play this game. I will then be the happiest person on the planet.

I love NCAA, but I think I would refine that goal to get paid to play video games in general. But I don't want a pay cut. I would gladly give up any future raises to make my current salary to sit at home and play video games. I would be willing to write reviews or offer constructive criticism if they'd like!

Man, what a job that'd be.

I read a story a few years back about a kid (from Nebraska, I think) who won an EA Sports NCAA Football tournament. The grand prize was a job. Get this, he played the game all day to find bugs/glitches and suggest improvements.

And, yes, if anyone would match my current salary to play video games (sports ones in particular), I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I think somebody at EA sports is a U of Buff grad. I also just finshed my 2005 season and played Buffalo in the MACC game, and had to squeak by 16-7. Their avg attendance was still only like 12,000 and mine was 35,000.

that's nothing. I just picked up NFL 2K5 from ESPN/Sony, and the Browns are 4-2!!! I don't know if they'll get their fourth win this season until next September!!! (Hopefully not, but there are some question marks and the usual "lets pray no one gets injured" theme for this year.)

BTW, this game is pretty solid. Its been a couple years since I've regularly played any football game on PS2, and this ranks right up there. And for $20 at Target instead of the $50 Madden will run when it comes out, I say its worth it. Heck, as much as I'd love to take *both* my brown and orange teams to titles, its even almost worth not jumping out and dropping the $50 on NCAA 2005! (Though that game still sounds damn sweet, I can probably wait until Madden comes out and see if the college version starts popping up at resale joints. Or even save it for an off-season "fix" next February!)

I disagree on the Browns prospects this season. Last year was a disaster where one thing just snowballed into another, then another. They still managed 5 wins. The only major loss from last year's 5 year squad was the PUNTER. They (hopefully) added the best rookie in the draft, who's ready to make an immediate impact. They replaced the most abysmal QB play in the NFL last year (on top of having a terrible controversy) with a multiyear pro bowler. Last year allowed Suggs to emerge and now Green has serious competition for PT, this will only make both of them better. Verba is also back this year.

I'm not sure that the Browns are a playoff team, but they very well could be. I just don't see how the media, among others, is so hung up on how terrible they're going to be. They took a 5 win team, and made VERY noticeable improvements. They should be at least a 7-8 win team, could push for a playoff spot. Look back at last year their defense was actually pretty good, but they lost because their offense averaged a measly 17 pts a game! If the addition of Garcia & Winslow can be worth an extra TD per game (which they very well could be) they win a lot more games if the young defense just stays the same.

Let's just say the Browns drafted the best player available. It remains to be seen if he actually plays this year.

I think you may be right. I hope you're right, but as much as I look at the upcoming BG season with possibly a bit too much optimism, being a Browns fan always brings out the negative side. I just saw a headline, didn't read the article, but Chaun Thompson breaking his wrist can't help things right off the bat. The addition of Garcia should be huge, though a thin cast on the O-line still concerns me. It was good to see McCutcheon get an extension yesterday, too.

You might not even get a chance to see if he keeps holding out on contract negotionations-- that kid wants the damn world!

Initially my reaction was the same as this, that he was overly greedy and he wanted the world. They offered him the exact same contract as the player in front of him got, to me it seemed like a good deal, etc.

Recent light has been shed to make Winslow's position stronger. The Postons initially said that it wasn't their fault Taylor signed a crap deal, I thought that was posturing but new evidence has arisen. D'Angelo Hall & Roy Williams have both signed contracts that are better for the player than the one that Taylor signed. Fitzgerald (2 spots earlier) signed a contract that totally dwarfed Taylor's. Then Taylor goes out and fires his agent.

All these signs are pointing to the fact that Taylor signed well below market value, and thus the contract the Browns offered Winslow is likely below market value as well. The Browns need to get their act together and offer him more guaranteed money, and less in unattainable incentives.

This holdout may last awhile, but I'm confident that he'll be in for the first game of the season. With his athletic ability that may be enough to get good production from him.

Buffalo

I had to play Buffalo in both 2004 and 2005 MACC games. It's not a tough victory or anything, but playing them for any MAC Championship is just unrealistic. I will agree with BGMan about someone from Buffalo is working for EA!

For those of you who are losing games with BG, what level are you playing on? I've been undefeated and won back-to-back National Championships now on All-Star. I find the game rather easy but maybe I'm just an addict :D

I'm playing the game on All American. I lost one game this season and 4 games in my first season. My 4 losses the first year were a result of the first 4 games I had played and getting used to the new playbook, etc. Also had a tough schedule in the first 4 (@ OU, OSU, @ Temple, @ NIU). I ran the table from there including whipping Kansas St. in a bowl game.

This year I lost to OU in a rematch at the Doyt and have beaten everyone else including @ the big house.

I find the game incredibly easy to beat the MAC teams, but I still struggle beating the major teams. That will likely change as I improve my OL, which is just TERRIBLE right now.

I'm in 2005 now, and yeah, Buffalo is leading the conference at 6-1.

Something's up.
