Maybe these things have already been discussed already, but I have a couple thoughts about our Spring Football Game this year that came to mind because of a few ideas I had from things I’ve seen done in some places in the ACC. First off, if we’re not going to play in the Doyt, why couldn’t we move the spring game into, say, the soccer stadium? Virginia did this a couple years ago when they were doing construction on the football stadium. They simply lined the soccer/lacrosse field with football markings and used a portable goal post that they rolled into an endzone. They usually get a few thousand fans for the spring game and it worked out great. UVa actually also played at a local high school one year too, but the playing surface wasn’t nearly as good as the soccer/lacrosse facility, and it also allowed them to keep the event on grounds. BG usually gets what, a few hundred people for the spring game. You could use the stands in the soccer stadium and allow people to bring in lawn chairs or blankets for additional seating since the stands don’t run the entire length of the sideline. You could then open up a concession stand or two on the West side of the Doyt or something. Then, people could still tailgate in the lots or around the stadium & soccer field, see the progress of the Sebo, etc.

Second, I see that we also have a home baseball game scheduled for 1:00, on the same day and same time as the spring game. Why not stagger the starting time for say the baseball game and start it a little later and allow some of the people who make the trip to BG for the spring game a chance to stop by and watch some of the baeball game. I’m coming up and I would love to see both events. I know we can’t start baseball too late because we don’t have lights but it is getting dark relatively later now. Why not move first pitch back and hour or two. For example, Clemson does this every year when they host an ACC weekend series in baseball on the day of the spring football game. They play the spring game around noon or 1:00, then after the game they pack the baseball game. I was in Clemson for two ACC series in 2003 & 2005 when they did it and I thought it was a great idea. Clemson always has good baseball crowds, but they usually pulled in an extra 1000-1,500 fans when they did this.

I'm not sure the turf at the soccer stadium is of the same type as what they attempt to grow at the football stadium. And I would think it a crime to rip it up playing football on it. I don't recall many soccer stadiums that fair well after a football game has been played on it.

Better that they use the practice fields.
