A bunch of teams lost today in the lower reaches of the polls, unless anyone takes exception to NIU needing OT to beat BallsTate, I assume they crack the top 25, but it will be interesting to see what they do with the rest of us. Hopefully BG can start picking up more votes heading into the BIG final 2 weeks of the season (and hopefully not suffer a let down against a WMU team that always gives us fits!) and knock on the door of the top 25 when bowl season rolls around.
One down side is some of the teams that won in upsets cleared a big hurdle toward being bowl eligible. Northwestern need 7 wins (thanks to a game at Hawaii), but going into today they had to win 4 of their last 5, with Michigan and Purdue on the schedule. Now they have winnable games with Penn State, Illinois and Hawaii, plus a game at Michigan that won't matter if they win the other three. Indiana has played *decent* ball at times this year, and needs to win out, but games against Penn State and Illinois could give them momentum into a rivalry game at Purdue to finish the year. And if they need that win for a bowl game, and DiNardo to save his job, who knows what they're capable of, especially with the turmoil that's hit the Boilermakers the past few weeks.
And that's just the Big Ten!!! Hopefully most of these teams fall short in their bid to get to six wins (and I assume it will happen with a number of them) and there are enough at-large bids to give BG a good look!
