I hope BG goes with "FieldTurf" too.

Ball State has become the eighth member of the MAC to elect to play its home football games on FieldTurf, the world’s leader of artificial turf. No other NCAA conference boasts as many FieldTurf fields as the MAC. In addition to Ball State, the other MAC schools with FieldTurf include Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Miami University, Northern Illinois, Ohio and Western Michigan. FieldTurf is also the turf of choice for the National Football League, with 21 of the league’s 32 teams currently utilizing the surface.

I've been on both Miami's and Ohio's fields, and I have to say that Field Turf is some impressive stuff. Despite my own purist sensibilities, I'm actually pretty excited to see Field Turf, or something very similar, in DLP. Given my druthers I would much rather we play on grass, but the simple fact of the matter is that we are located in a former swamp with a very shallow water table, and given the timing of the football season, the fall isn't a great time to be in that kind of environment in Ohio.

Bring on the fake stuff - we can take it!

The question with fake turf will be how well does the field take water. Will we still see the crown on the field?

drainage will be dependent upon the drainage tile that will be laid down.

But think about it this way... you can have ORANGE endzones!!

As for drainage, if they don't put enough tile down, then we could turn the field into the worlds biggest "Slip and Slide." Which might actually be fun.

Hehe...one of my friends at the Buffalo game this year decided that after the first or second lightning delay to go sliding on the white plastic that the players are supposed to stand on. He said it was fun, and even better was that the cops did not catch him.

We could also have that start to be part of the post game celebration...while rushing the field, the fans can go sliding....sounds like fun!

We had one lacrosse game on a FieldTurf surface only about 30 minutes after an absolute downpour. Aside from the little black chunks of "dirt" sticking to us, there was absolutely no problem. If they install it the way it's supposed to be installed, it should drain wonderfully.

I agree BO. I still love the natural grass field. Ohio's field is pretty sweet...

i was on the field at the ohio game doing some reporting and i can tell ya that field was pretty sweet. it was like walking on a sponge.
