I like that we have decided to replace our field and that we are going to go with FieldTurf, I just hope that we can get it down for this season. I'd love to see us open the season with a brand new Sebo and playing surface! Since we have decided to replace the field, I'd rather see us do it now and not wait another year.

Alternatively, maybe we could just play away games until the field is ready. Wouldn't it be rather funny to have our Homecoming game in Bowling Green, KY?

I'm excited to see all the work going on with the athletic facilities. Yes, I would like to have the field turf for this season but I just have to be patient....I'm not very good at practicing patience though. Maybe it's just me, but I'm very excited for the upcoming football season. I see good things on the horizon.

Christopher said the new master plan for the athletics department is due in June and it should contain recommendations for improvements for the basketball and hockey facilities.
“When it’s done, we’ll publicize it. We want everyone to know what the plan is,” Christopher said. “The convocation center or the arena plan is probably going to be a very central part of that and there is really a continuum of options and no decision has been made yet.”

Perhaps in June some of you sceptics will start to believe that facilities improvements will actually happen in our lifetimes. This is another master stroke by GC, in my opinion. He has obviously taken to heart the frustration that decades of rumors have caused for the alumni/fan base and is taking proactive measures to allay those concerns early in his tenure - something which I'm not sure an AD at BG has ever before accomplished.

We’ve basically already announce we're installing FieldTurf with quotes in the papers from our administration and we’ve even mentioning it in the season ticket renewals. Let’s put up a link on the website and send out a notice of how those who can contribute can do so (I’ll do my part to help out), and let’s get the project started and underway. I mean, we’re unveiling the gem of Doyt L. Perry Stadium - the Sebo Center - against Temple of all teams…so let’s at least put down a new field while we’re at it.

I really don't have a strong preference between FieldTurf or natural grass, thought at the end of the day I would have to say I'd lean towards what's financially best for the Athletic Dept.

That being said, has anyone heard a dollar figure on what it would take to get the drainage issues sorted out?

After tearing up the old field, replacing all the tiling, re-grading the crown, replacing the grass? You're looking about probably a couple hundred thousand.

I would actually think that the cost would easily rival that of FieldTurf instillation. You have to remember that, because grass takes some time to grow, the University would also need to purchase a great deal of sod to replace the field in time for the 2007 home schedule. I could be wrong, but I would have to believe that all of the tangential costs associated with having another "Mudbowl" debacle would easily mitigate any concerns about installing the new stuff this year, even if that means paying a premium to speed up the process.

Again, I could be wrong, but I highly doubt there will be any delay in installing the new (and glorious! ) fake stuff.

I would also take into consideration the "lost revenue" of not having a surface that can be used as often as we can. If we fix the drainage, replace the sod, and can only host three or four events at the most a week I would presume that would bring in less money than fixing the drainage, installing field turf, and being able to host at least one event per day. Let's face it, the athletic needs to find new ways to bring in revenue. FieldTurf, or something like it will give us another avenue to bring in that money. Look at the number of football games UT has in the Glass Bowl. We could do that too, but not will real grass.

I wish we could stick with grass, but I'm not ready to sit here and argue it would cost less.
