BG trying to make Falcon football tickets more affordable for families
Bowling Green is hoping to make the ticket prices for Falcon football more affordable while improving the season ticket base for the upcoming season.
“I just thought some of our pricing was a little high ... for families,” Greg Christopher, BG’s athletics director, said about football tickets.
Season tickets are on sale ranging from $89 from prime chairbacks (between the 30-yard lines) to $49 for bench adult/youth/senior/military seats. Single game tickets, priced from $21 to $7 per game will be on sale this summer.
Group tickets/hospitality tent tickets are also on sale.
The tickets for Bowling Green’s seven road games will be available soon.
“What I’ve told our staff is that our emphasis this year has got to be on our season ticket base,” Christopher said. “With the NCAA attendance requirement and as we look to fill the stadium ... we really need to focus on growing our season ticket base.”
Thanks to a large number of tickets sold for the Miami game on Nov. 15 last fall, which was played in a downpour, Bowling Green was able to reach the NCAA minimum average of 15,000 fans per game.
“Our season ticket base for football last year was a hair over 2,000,” Christopher said. “That’s awfully tough to get a consistent crowd when you’re dealing with a base number just over 2,000.”
The Falcons’ 2007 home opener is against Temple on Sept. 22. The Sebo Athletic Center will be dedicated that day and it’s also Hall of Fame Weekend. BG hosts Western Kentucky on Sept. 29 for Homecoming.
Other home games are against Ohio (Oct. 27 for Family Weekend); Akron (Nov. 2) and arch-rival Toledo (Nov. 23 at 2:30 p.m.).

It's awfully tough tough to build a season ticket base when you give away every good NC home game you have a contract for.

In addition, the biggest home draw we have left is on a day when many people are out looking for sales at the mall.

I'm not sure that many people that would plan on attending the game regardless will skip to go bargain hunting. Nonetheless, with our attendance issues, having one of our precious home games on Black Friday doesn't seem to be a great way to help boost our average, either.

Who wrote that press release? THATS HORRIBLE!!! $21 to $7 ... hello... grammatically that should read $7 to $21 and $49 to $89 for season tickets.

I'm shocked we only sell 2,000 season tickets. Man, it is a miracle we draw as well as we do.

It would be nice to go back to having General Admission tickets for sale, too. Just my opinion on that, as I remember a lot of people complaining about it, me included! I hated paying full price for one or both of my kids who would come and rarely watch much of the game.....

I know price may be the only place to "make up" attendance losses but the lack of quality home games, heck, the lack of home games period, has to hurt more. Boise would have had Perry Stadium bulging at the seams IMO and might attract the casual fan who would be impressed with the product on the field and return.

As a Falcon alum and supporter of BG Athletics, it bothers me to read the complaints regarding tickets and an overall lack of real support!

It seems that there are quite a few people here that genuinely care about BG Athletics, however, there are many that dont seem to understand exactly what supporting the program means.

Sure, we all know that it's easy to come up to the Doyt on any given Saturday to purchase your tickets. However, if we ever want to get back to the days where the Doyt was packed and all of BG's teams across the board can compete for championships, then what needs the happen is people invest in our team and purchase season tickets.

Stop putting so much emphasis on who our opponents are! It shouldn't matter who we're playing. The important thing is that BG is playing and that's the only team that fans should be coming out to see!

If BG is ever going to compete with the BCS schools, then BG fans are going to need to stop pinching pennies and invest in our team. Purchase your season tickets. Turning things around is not going to happen overnight. It takes everyone contributing (Athletic Department, coaches, student athletes, and the community).

How can BG compete long term if there are only 2,000 people willing the invest? There are high schools that attract larger crowds that BG and that's a shame!

you answer your own question here....The BCS and the lack of a real National championship and or a fair and equitable chance at competing against fellow D1 schools for a championship..sole because they have tons more cash and want and controll all the money has ruined it. compound this with the lets give every a school a bowl game that went 500 and you have ruined college football.

I'm not in the best of financial situations right now, but my father and I have found it to be in our interest as fans to purchase season tickets. We actually bought an extra one this year because of the generosity of GC's new ticket scheme. All of you out there - and there are many around here - who say you don't buy season tickets because you can get them discounted at pizza joints or bowling alleys need to seriously reconsider your actual commitment to BGSU Football. I happen to know that some of you are in a financial position to buy season tickets, yet you look for any and all discounts available. Is that, truly, supporting the program?

I should have said all of this long ago. I've certainly been angered by the comments regarding season tickets by some around here on many occasions. Thank you, Beastnasty, for taking the lead. And a heartfelt welcome to you - please contribute as much as you can!

Proud to be renewing our 4 season tickets for the 12th consecutive year. It's just a given in our house that every year, I set aside whatever funds are needed for season tickets. It's a priority every summer.

I agree a general admission season ticket is needed.

I was surprised to recently read that Miami only sold about 2,000 season tickets last season.

According to a Blade article last year, Toledo sold nearly 11,000 season tickets. My guess is that would be near the top in the MAC.
