Rothenbuhler named assistant head coach

Post by ZiggyZoomba »

Bowling Green State University football coach Gregg Brandon has
announced that fifth-year assistant coach Troy Rothenbuhler has been
promoted to assistant head coach. Rothenbuhler, a native of Oregon
and a graduate of Clay High School, is the tight ends coach and
recruiting coordinator for the Falcons.

"Troy has provided our staff with outstanding leadership during his
tenure and has been an invaluable asset to our program," said
Brandon. "He is a tireless worker whose organizational skills are
unmatched."

Rothenbuhler, a graduate of Ohio State, came to BGSU after serving as
a graduate assistant with the Buckeyes and after working as an
assistant coach at Arkansas State and Heidelberg. At BGSU,
Rothenbuhler coached tight ends in 2003, 2005 and 2006. In 2004, he
coached All-MAC defensive ends Mitchell Crossley and Devon Parks. In
2003, tight ends Craig Jarrett became the first Falcon football
player in 10 years to earn Academic All-American honors.

"I'm thrilled about the opportunity and excited about the upcoming
season," said Rothenbuhler. "It means a lot to me that Coach Brandon
has thought enough of my contributions that he has rewarded me in
this way."

Congratulation to Coach Rothenbuhler.

Now I'm not saying this to be critical of Rothenbuhler, but I do find this interesting in that he was the one of three holdovers from last year. McCall got promoted to Offensive Coordinator and Coach Ward got promoted to Defensive Coordinator. Coach Rothenbuhler being named Assistant Head Coach now means all three returning coaches received promotions.

Wart,
Why should this be surprising? In order to KEEP asst. coaches, all schools have to find a way to change titles, responsibilties etc. i.e. = extra $$ in the pocket.... I've talked with Troy, found him to be very personable. I can't judge him as a coach as assts. tend to "blend" into the scenery, unless of course, they're co-ordinators, more visible due to play calls etc.

61,
Maybe that is what I was getting at. In order to keep Rothenbuhler from feeling left out, Brandon decided to give him the Asst. HC title in order to give him a perk. I could be wrong, but it seems to me that typically one of the coordinators gets the title of Asst HC. Since Coach Rothenbuhler stuck around, this was Bradon's way of rewarding him, while McCall and Ward got coordinator positions.

Hmmm, good point. Maybe that was a title they offered to entice to go to CMU. I know he is a CMU grad, but it couldn't have been much of a promotion to go from a WR coach here to a WR coach at CMU.
