No wonder our coaches are leaving all the time. They don't get paid anything. We are seriously behind other Mid-Majors and GB is one of the lowest in the MAC. The guy at Buffalo makes more and they stink. We need to buck up and pay these guys.

The coaches that have moved on voluntarily have all accepted positions that significantly increase their salary and/or responsibility.

None have been lateral moves, nor is our situation in terms of coaching retention any different from any other school in the conference as previous posts have made clear.

We should pay our coaches as much as possible for many reasons, but expecting to win financial bidding wars with BCS schools is unrealistic.

The beauty of the raise just given to Curt Miller is that it would seem to put a whole lot more schools out of play for him.

I'm shooting from the gut on this, but that's my take.

I concur. The goal is to retain coaches, and a few grand here or there isn't going to be a deal-maker or deal-breaker against a BCS school. Being at the higher end would be nice, but there's no proof it makes any difference in preventing coaches from leaving.

Recently, assistant coaches from Akron, Northern Illinois and Western Michigan all forfeited loftier titles to assume roles as position coaches at BCS schools. The head coaches at each of these schools earn more than Brandon, so it would be logical to assume their assistants earn more as well. It didn't stop them.

Also, our recent hires have all been extremely qualified-if not overqualified-for their positions, so I'm not too worried that we're losing out on anybody either.
