"Top" players
Just for the heck of it, I clicked on to each team's "TOP PLAYER" recruit. Seemed as if most, if not all of the "top kids" were either a bit on the small side, not super fast, need work in the weight room etc. Thought it was interesting to read.

Re: "Top" players
Haven't actually checked this out myself, but I bet if you looked at the top recruits in the other "Mid-Major" conferences, you would see similar results.Class of 61 wrote:Just for the heck of it, I clicked on to each team's "TOP PLAYER" recruit. Finally a senior!
So, Brandon continues to trash Sean. Well it IS hard for a jackass to become a race horse. Ok, lets look at the 4-9.
1. BG DOESN"T win if Sean doesn't make 2 field goals against FIU.
2. BG DOESN"T win if Sean doesn't make the field goal against Eastern Michigan.
3. BG's ONLY SCORE against Kent State was a 31 yard Field Goal, averting a shutout.
He wants bring that the situation up in the media again? You want to revisit the 5 misses? Lets see.... THREE of the them were BLOCKED by inept line play... period. One was a miss in the horrific mud that was compared to kicking on an ice rink. That leaves one ligitimate miss. Ok, from a 19 year old freshman, I'll take it.
Brandon AND HIS STAFF (Asst. Head Coach Included!) have no idea how to coach special teams. They have NO IDEA how to motivate a football team. They have NO CLUE as to how to work with these guys to bring them along and make them BETTER.
Sean was sold a bill of goods by Brandon and his staff. When things went bad last year WHO GOT BLAMED? Players! I seem to remember Cory P. getting called out by Brandon when it was COMPLETELY UNJUSTIFIED! The Horrific punt block scheme resulted in COUNTLESS disasters and Alonso got called out on it both away from and in front of the cameras/microphones.
Brandon and his staff screwed Sean and Alonso over. These guys had all the talent in the world. I remember a phone call from your new Asst. Head Coach the Thursday before the season began last year and the words "All American pair of kickers" were said repeatedly. So how did it go from that to where they ended up in December? Did these guys lose all their talent in those four months? NO... They were screwed over. They were hung out to dry by a staff that couldn't accept responsibiltiy, couldn't figure out what was happening on the field and couldn't figure out how to fix THEIR TEAM and decided to cut these guys loose.
Look at the MASS EXODUS of coaches after last season. Sugar coat it all you want but they were all DYING TO GET OUT OF THERE. The coaches that remained (who couldn't get other jobs) were promoted. Wow there is a surprise!
Brandon's quote pissed me off (can't you tell) and I can't just sit by and let that B.S. slide.
Good luck BG Fans. Maybe You will only have these guys at the helm of your ship for a little while longer.

I wondered where you went. Welcome back.
I understand your frustration and anger and I believe your critique of Brandon is not undeserved. A few folks on this board share that.
I'm not sure I can see coaches leaving for better positions as wanting the first train out of BG.
Don't be a stranger. We want to know how the lad is doing. He's a good kid and I'll always see him as a falcon.

I also hope that Sean lands on his feet somewhere to kick. I wish him the best of luck. He was a very talented kicker that was thrown into the fire. People don't seem to agree, but it is very difficult to ask a Freshman kicker to come in and excel. I also agree 100% that our biggest issues were with blocking up front.
I don't know if you've been around much, but it should also be noted that they didn't go full go in the spring game on Special Teams. I don't doubt that Sean & Alonso would've done a fine job kicking in that game as well as it was played on a beautiful sunny day and there was no rushing the kickers.
IMO, the way Brandon handled the two young kickers last year was one of the worst things he's done as a HC, and that's saying something for somebody that's seen his program get worse every year he's been here. But of course it's never his fault...it's always the players. Much easier to blame it on 18 year old kids than shoulder any fault yourself, eh coach.
I do hope you don't sour on BG in general because of the actions of our head coach, that'd be a real shame. If you're ever in the area for a game, please feel free to stop by and have some beers & BBQ with us again!
Nice analysis of the kicks. Sean has alot of talent. One of those "Wrong place at the wrong time" kind of things. He will do well where ever he goes.MIBGSUFan wrote:So, Brandon continues to trash Sean. Well it IS hard for a jackass to become a race horse. Ok, lets look at the 4-9.

I know Corey doesn't blame him for the Miami game.
I wish him all the luck in the world.

Yep...I was wondering if you'd seen that blurb. Of all the dissappointing things that went on last year I think the way Sean and Rojas were handled topped the list. It's a shame that coach Brandon feels he has to bury those kids every time he discusses the kicking game.
It's not something I like to see....

The whole kicking thing was a debacle from the word go. We recruited two outstanding kickers, gave them next to zero chance to succeed, then threw them under the bus when they didn't succeed. Losing Big Bird and Rojas ranks high on the list of disappointments from last year, and that's a pretty long list.hammb wrote:I hope you're right man.MIBGSUFan wrote: Good luck BG Fans. I agree with you 87! This was a shame and certainly not handled properly. Brandon is just plain stupid and does not deserve to be a D1 coach. He road Urban Myers for three years and now you see what we are left with! Until he goes, the FALCONS will be a mid to bottom tier team unfortunately...
Falcon Hockey...Re-building the tradition!
I agree '87. Last summer everyone thought our kicking game would be immediately improved, and I tried to preach that we would still have some growing pains with the young kickers. It's just fairly rare for Freshman to walk into those roles and excel.1987alum wrote: The whole kicking thing was a debacle from the word go. Then we gave them no blocking up front, so they had almost zero chance of success. Very disappointing, but you hoped they would grow.
Then the HC throws them completely under the bus and that's uncalled for no matter who the player is, IMO. To do it with Freshmen kickers who were NEVER put in a good situation for success is just not fair to them or the team. It's a shame, because I think both of them would've grown into great MAC kickers.
When I re-read the article about BG, and what sentence had quotations, I'm not sure what Brandon said about last years kickers was recent. He stated our kicking game was much improved. I would expect that and it was something to note after the Spring game for many reasons. Anything else in that paragraph could have been or was from prior statements. Unless I'm reading it wrong I didn't understand it all as statements made after the Spring Game during some phone interview. More like a journalist making a summary using a variety of articles.
