The Definitive word on BG's field turf design

I just got back from the barnstorming tour at BGSU-Firelands. There was a disappointing turnout, maybe 20 people. I got the chance to meet Louis Orr, Curt Miller, Scott Paluch and a few others. All were friendly and cordial. Local athletes TJ Blanton and Garth Hartung were there. AD Greg Christopher was there and I had the chance to ask him about the design that will be on the Field Turf. He first joked that it would be orange, but then added that would actually be illegal. He said that the endzones will be orange and the new retail logo will be at mid-field. (The BG logo with the new Falcon head in the upper right hand corner). He also said that this Fall they will most likely make an announcement regarding the future of Anderson Arena and the Ice Arena. If you get the chance to go to one of these barnstorming events, I highly recommend it!

Thanks for the update. I like the sound of the orange endzones and the BG logo at midfield too! I can't wait to see it when they are all finished.

Ugh.

Destroy the grass and then make us look at that ugly retail logo...they better hope they wiin some games this year, because they're making it real tough to be a fan of this program.

Give it a chance. Long term, Field Turf will be very good for the university. Besides, they also mentioned tonight that it is critical that BG can grow it's fanbase and increase it's revenues. They were heavily pushing season tickets.

Hammb, get an effin' grip. If you don't, I can't promise you anymore Nosferatu this season.

At least they are putting people in the seats for at least the first few games.

That sort of answers the question I submitted this week for the AD.

Does anybody have a picture of this new logo that is going to be on the field, and why in the world are we going away from the big giant falcon head?

FootballGuy,

Take a look at this thread. Go down to MK455's concept.

So they are going to use the "space ghost" falcon logo?

You bastard! :)

I'm having a hard time coming to grips with this new reality. I doubt I'll ever fully embrace it.

I don't like Field Turf. I think sports should be played on grass, period. I just don't like the fake stuff. If it helps the university build larger revenues that'd be about the only redeeming quality of it to me. Hopefully they do get HS playoff games and whatnot to get some extra use of it.

As for the logo, I'll never like that thing. It's UGLY. When it comes to logos I'm a traditionalist. Sure the LT falcon head hasn't been around forever, but it's been around all my life, and it's what I grew up with. I like simple logos, short sweet, and to the point. I just plain like our old logo. I dislike the new one. I didn't have a problem with it in the beginning, because it was supposed to be just retail stuff. Fine, no problem, I just don't buy anything with that ugly logo on there. Having another logo helped boost some merchandise sales, no problem. But when they start phasing out the old logo completely, that irritates me.

I'll still be there at all the games, I'll still be donating to the Falcon Club, and I'll still be hoping they finally get over that MAC championship hump, but right now they're making it tough on me. We've gotten worse each year for the past 3 seasons. We've ditched about the only thing that I really loved about the Doyt (Grass). Now it's starting to sound like we're completely phasing out the traditional logo.

Like I said, they're making it tough...

I don't like the move to FieldTurf, but I guess I'm over it. My only concern remains whether or not they'll allow fans on the field after the game.

As for the logo, hammb, I'm with you 100%.

I like it. I like the orange endzones. I would normally consider myself an old school type of guy, but in this case, I would much rather appeal to the younger new generations like my kids.

I'm excited. I look forward to seeing the finished product.

I've come around to the field turf idea, and I do like the retail logo almost as much as I like the traditional logo. Now all we need is a team that can kick some ass this year.

That's what's so great about BG football. Even though my head has a tough time hoping for a good team this year, I can't help but get excited about Falcon football when I read stuff like this. Thanks for the update.

Will the grass be all the same color? Or will there be different shades of green alternating every five or ten yards? Like MK455's concept?
