Cleveland tour stop....

Man, if you love Falcon sports, you need to get out to one of these Barnstorming stops. Hung out with Class of 61 and Bleeding Orange and had a great time with all those there including falconfan1. Loren Hargrove sat at our table...great kid. Couldn't stop talking about the speed of this year's D. Coaches present were Brandon, Orr, Schmitz, Salsberg, Van De Walle, Wells, Winger, Young, Roos (Miller had to stay back due to family illness), Buff and assistant gymnastics coach, Kerri Beach. I think I got everyone. Current student athletes there were Hargrove and John Haneline from football, Hanna Lambert from women's golf, Steph Swiger, our resident AZZ and volleyball ace and a guy whose name escapes me. He plays both baseball and soccer.

Had a chance to meet Coach Salsberg for the first time and she loves playing long ball with the HRs. I was talking to her about the team obliterating the season HR mark. I can tell she's excited to be at BG. Also spoke at length with Coach Van De Walle. Talk about a classy lady...She will be entering her 25th season as Volleyball HC. Karl, Coach Van De Walle asked about you and how you were doing.

Got to meet Coach Orr and it was cool talking to him about the plans for his team. I am excited to see what he can do. Did mention Nate Miller could be the next Anthony Stacey, who was there as well. Other former athletes included Brian and Lisa McClure (who played vb at BG), Kevin Dahl, Brian Holzinger and a few others. Coach Brandon was all fired up about the new season...and the Sebo Center. All the coaches talked about what a FIRST CLASS, BiG time facility it is. Word is Urban was very impressed with the building when he was in town. I can't wait for football season. Coach Brandon also said the QB race won't be settled until after 29 practices this summer to get his guy. He more than likely will not name a starter until the opener. BTW, the Temple game is now a noon start for ESPN Regional. At first I thought that was a bummer but then thought how ESPN cameras will be panning over the stadium with the Sebo and new turf. Considering what the country saw the last time ESPN was in our house vs Miami... We'll just have to tailgate after the game longer. :-D I just wanna see some Falcon Football. Coach Roos talked about the magical careers of the women's hoops team. You can tell they will never forget what happened this year and the staff and players will be working hard to keep the machine running.

Let me say this...if you love BG athletics, you simply can't miss this tour. Greg Christopher doesn't mince words when he talks about what we all need to do to make BGSU successful. While there is a lot of work to do, I firmly believe our future can be bigger than what we've ever seen. It takes money, pure and simple, to get it done. Instead of avoiding issues, GC is taking them on one by one. I wouldn't bet against the man not succeeding at BG. The challenge is to grow the fan base in all sports. A common theme, which I loved, was all the coaches talking about attending all BG athletic events. It doesn't matter what sport as they all talked about how jacked up the players get when they come out and see orange.

As a Falcon, how can you not be jacked up with all the BG sports in one room?

There are 3 more events in the next few days...June 19 at the Toledo Zoo...the Falcons are invading rockette country. COOL! June 21 in Findlay and June 26 in the Fostoria/Tiffin area. For more detailed information, call (419) 372-7100 or email [email protected].

I had fun....a lot of fun. :-D

GO FALCONS!!!!!!!!!

I was at the Cleveland Tour Stop last night as well. I sat with John Haneline and his mother. Two things impressed me...one they were both very nice people...and second John can eat!

Spoke with Coach Brandon and he said the new field turf is supposed to be ready to go by August 1. I also asked him about Omar Jacobs and he said he "had no clue" as to what's happening with him...didn't even know he was to play in Europe this Spring. He also had no idea what Sharon was up to as well and seemed surpised when I said he was tearing it up in the summer workouts with the Jaguars. I guess as a HC you're too busy to worry about the guys who have moved on? Coach brandon didn't impress me as the most cerebral guy but he did speak with a lot of emotion when his turn came at the podium.

Spoke with Coach Roos and she was very excited about the incoming freshmen for the girls basketball team. She doesn't think we'll win 31 games again but thinks we'll be challenging for the MAC again soon...maybe this year again.

I did nail all 8 trivia questions and win a BG polo shirt. I only had help with one answer and that was on the gymnastics question.

Greg Christopher said we will definetly have a direction by this fall on Anderson Arena. He said it had a lot of structural problems and seemed to be leaning towards a new facility. He did say that if it's a new facility they don't want to build a big, multi-purpose facility that would seem empty for games. THis would make us lose our home-court advantage. He said Northern Illinois and Eastern Mighigan both have those problems with their new facilities.

It might be a little early, but Christopher could turn into one of the best ADs BG has ever had. Right now he's saying and doing all the right things to get us to the top. I don't think people realize how great it is that we're going to be upgrading 3 facilities in one year. Two sports are finally going to be able to compete at their home fields/courts.

I love how he mentions that if we are to build a new arena, it will need to have the Anderson Arena feel. He understands the importance of that. I always hoped that whenever a new building was built that we could sustain that kind of home court advantage.

He'll make me very happy if he'll say that they're going to dump a ton of cash into the Ice Arena and build a new competition sheet.

Now I *know* you're lying.

Sounds like some heavy hitters from years past showed up. I really wish I could make it back to Ohio for one of these.

Heavy hitters is right. Thursday night in the same room were Hobey Baker Award winner Brian Holzinger, MAC hoops POTY Anthony Stacey and back to back Vern Smith award winner Brian McClure. 3 of the best of all time.

Probably is a little early, but I like how it is starting and I would love to see it become a prophecy. From your lips to God's ears.

I guess I had forgotten that they got married. While Brian earned all the awards he received, Lisa was an excellent athlete in her own right.
