Urban Legend among others listed at Washington, but eventually the domino effect could affect one or more coaches at BG! Just read the USA Today MAC report.

Anytime a job opens out west, Brandon and Urban will be mentioned b/c that's where their ties are. Brandon hasn't been mentioned, but other "western" openings will be caused by this one.

I just hope no one else thinks coach Brandon is a rising star in the coach ranks...

He's going to be tough to hide, isn't he. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if we are after a new head coach by December. I don't think UM will go to Washington, and I do think he will be mentioned for every opening.

Of the coaches mentioned in this article, I would think Pinkel would be the most "logical" due his Washington background... but after watching a bit of the Boise St. game the other nite, it'll be hard to ignore a guy who seems to be working wonders with minimal facilites...other than a BLUE field of course.

As to Gregg Brandon, I've said it before... if YOU were coaching BG this year, saw your "crowds" go from 23K to 17K to 10K, wouldn't you seriously consider your other options? And I wouldn't blame him if he did.... But I'd still hate to lose him...we need some continuity beyond a new Head Coach every 2 years or so.

The heck with the crowd, I wouldn't blame him for leaving if he could double his salary.

which is exactly why I have nothing against Urban for leaving us.

I don't think its attendance that keeps coaches at the MAC. Most of these guys want to advance their careers, just like the rest of us. And the MAC is a stepping stone for qualtiy coaches who want to coach larger programs. We have to hope for coaches who played in the MAC and want to stay in the MAC. NIU's coach, Joe Novak, played for Bo at Miami. He's not going anywhere.

Lack of bowl games also hurts the MAC. Randy Walker, a Miami Alumni - Ohio Native (Troy, Ohio - My hometown) loved coaching at Miami, loved the MAC, and was a quality coach. He would still be at Miami if not for the shaft the MAC gets at Bowl time. His last season at Miami, they went 10-1 and did not get a bowl bid. He wept at his good-bye news conference. If memory serves me right he now has the most wins of any Miami Coach, including Woody, Bo, Ara, Webb, Pont.

A better question might be - Who out there coaching, who played for BG, might want to return home to lead us into continued glory?

Mmmm, I wonder if he would want to come home? Did he graduate? I wonder how he feels about his alma mater. I can't remember him being given his props by the U over the years. There could be friction.

I have no idea how good of a coach Bayless would be, but that, ideally, is someone you would have to target at a school like BG. Someone that is happy to be back and is dedicated to the program for the long term and really wants to have the program make a statement. AND is a good coach. But that's hard in today's environment.

The best option for BG is to look first look at Big Ten asst's and coordinators.

A few that come to mind are:

-Brock Spack, Purdue- He'll be taking over the Boilers soon, but maybe they want to see what he has beforehand

-Terry Malone, Michigan- He'll never be the head man at Michigan. After Lloyd the torch is going to be passed to Jim Herrman. Malone runs an efficient and high powered offense and just happend to play for the Falcons in the late 70s.

-Freddie Jackson, Michigan- The recruiting guru is long since due a job to prove himself. Woodson, Braylon Edwards, Mike Hart and Drew Henson all came to Michigan because of Coach Jackson

we need coaches that are going to keep with the spread offense. We finally have a style that is successful, fun to watch, and quality players that want to play this style of football. We can not end up in a situation where someone comes in and changes that philosophy. We can not end up with someone with a Big 10 type of mentality of pounding the ball for low scoring games. That type of football may be successful when you have the top picks out of the country for your linemen, but it will not work in the MAC.

In the end, I hope this is all rumor and speculation and Coach Brandon is back here next year. Actually, he could serve himself better by staying another year. Next years schedule has some quality opponents in Boise and Wisconsin. If we run the tables, we will be where Utah is today. BCS busters...and that will lead to even bigger things for Brandon and his staff.
