Another Ask the AD... congrats to the 50 student-athletes with the 4.0!!!

Life-size bronze statue cost: $75,000

I think a statue of Coach Perry would be a great addition to the stadium, but I figured the cost would prohibit that from happening. I like the other ideas Mr. Christopher pointed out for the future of the Doyt, though. Sounds like he has a good vision for improving the place and honoring the great tradition of BG football.

I will add my congrats to the 50 student-athletes who had a 4.0 last semester. What a great accomplishment!

Don't we have an art department? Couldn't we make a project around building some sort of statue? At the very least a mural with Josh, Omar, Doyt., Bernie Casey, etc. (Who else would be on it?)

That sounds like a good idea, that would really look good on ESPN

What if the athletic department raised ticket prices $5? Once you sold 15,000 tickets at the +$5 premium you could pay for the statue. Or you could just get a $5 donation from 15,000 people.

With pleasant attitudes like that, it could take decades.

I cannot imagine how our attendance would drop if we raised the prices $5. We already give away a ton of free tickets and discounted tickets/package deals.

We don't have 15,000 people willing to pay the current ticket face value...what makes you think we would if we raised the prices by $5?

I think someone needs to get the ball rolling and start the fund raiser. If we do all of the legwork as far as the fund raising, statue design, taking bids, etc.... how could he and the university turn it down?

The problem is that there's far more pressing needs that are worthy of private funding for the athletic department. I suppose if someone was incredibly passionate about a stature they could make it happen, but I don't sense a huge "Build a stature" movement percolating.

The art project idea is the way to go. Let's put them to good, productive use for once

Take donations at the gate or something. No need to add it to the price of the ticket. If the university can't do it, have volunteers go around each game and troll for donations for a statue. How hard can it be?

As far as I'm concerned, a statue would add a nice touch and would be a great tribute to a great coach....

A statue of Coach Perry would also give fans and visitors a sense of BGSU football's history, which would go a long way in improving ticket sales, in my opinion. As it stands, there is nothing currently in or around DLP that gives the place any sense of a past. Unless you are passionate about Falcon Football, a game experience at the Doyt is little more than a cute thing to do on a fall Saturday if the Black Swamp Festival isn't in town. Hammb can go on and on all he wants about programmatic ticket devaluation, but with all due respect, I think that has little to do with the problem. People are much, much more likely to identify with an institution if they can see and touch it's history, and find parallels to it with their own.

Look at it this way - there are hundreds of minor league baseball teams that would flip over backwards to have the kind of history that the Mudhens have. If they had it, they would take advantage of it (and the ones that do have it, do take advantage of it). In my experience our AD has done little, if nothing, to promote the history of any of our programs (with the exception of hockey, in my estimation). I still remember working in the CAC in Jerome several years ago and daily walking past the huge "1959 National Champions" team photo, framed beautifully in wood, sitting in a corner - on the sixth floor. Which isn't accessible to the public. I have been told that it will hang in the Sebo, but I don't know if that has happened yet.

The Sebo Center gives us a venue for promoting the programs history, but a statue of Doyt, in my opinion, would be a huge step in building an identity for Falcon Football above and beyond "that team with the stadium along I-75."
