Yeah, but remember that the 12-game schedule only became "permanent" a year or so ago. That means BG mostly played 11-game schedules.

Yep...unfortunately. Before the 12th game was added a few years ago, BG always had 5 home games and 6 road games. Now with 12 games, we're still trying to get to 6 home games.

And to add to this "historical" footnote, it wasn't ALL that long ago that teams played TEN game schedules....hence 5 home games in those years was about right.

Playing five home football games is fairly common in the MAC and for many of the other non-BCS schools, mostly because of economics.

The question I now have for the excellent researchers of this site is: How many times have each of the other members of the MAC had 6 or more scheduled (non MAC championship) games at home in one season?

The purpose of my question is to see if we are really a part of the norm in the MAC or are we behind our peers in home schedules. I know that a school near and not so dear to us has had more than 3 seasons with 6 or more home games in the last decade although I don't have an exact number.

It sounds like the 2008 schedule is complete, and a pretty good start on 2009 and 10.

This was 1973 and before. In that era, we tended to play nonconferene games that would yield home-and-home series (examples: Dayton, Xavier, Ball State, Utah State, Southern Mississippi). Our first game against a Big Ten opponent was the 1972 win at Purdue.
