Toledo loss hurts our chances.

Post by bg sports fan »

All you people that wanted toledo to loose to night need to go back to the posts on here about how the tie breaker plays out . We now are pretty much in trouble about getting into the MACC cause if they beat NIU next week and we take them out on the 23 it will end up a 2 way tie and NIU goes. BG needed a 3 way tie to make it to Detroit cause NIU is not going to loose to both Toledo and EMU.

So then NIU goes because they win the head-to-head against us? All those posts got too confusing and I stopped reading them. Also, NIU has been going down the the final minutes with teams like Balls Tate and UCF. Toledo and EMU could both easily beat them! Sure it's not "likely" to happen, but NIU struggled against Pope running the ball and even though Sherrell sucked against us, NIU could have some probs with him. Toledo has no chance unless they beat NIU and I can guarantee they will show up to play. If they do, who knows what could happen. I still think we have a legitimate shot at making the MACC but we will see!

True, our chance at winning the West pretty much went South of the Border, but we still have a decent chance at a bowl if we win out.

I'll take that!

The assumption is that we will beat toledo, at toledo, while they are riding a streak of beating MU and NIU, fighting for a championship, record crowd, ESPN, and revenge. I don't like to gamble, but those are tough odds. If we don't win that game then they tie us in the number of MAC Championships won.

Don't forget, though, that half of that record crowd will be pumped-up BG fans and one hella loud and supportive Falcon Marching Band. Our team knows what's at stake for us as well, and they've only been improving this season. I have much faith in our boys. :yawinkle:

Good game to watch last night. Neither team played great, but it was entertaining between switching to election coverage.

Dream scenario has NIU losing to UT and EMU and BG wins out including title game. Might not be realistic re: EMU in particular.

Slightly more realistic dream scenario (as in big maybe):

BG wins out 9-2 with wins over Marshall and at Toledo with a red hot offense and lots of Omar induced buzz. Ranked 25th.

NIU wins out including the title game over Marshall. Ranked 23.

NIU goes to the GMAC and hammers Southern Miss.

BG goes to the Motor City over 7-5 Marshall team we just whipped and 8-3 Miami where we roll over Ohio State in front of 68,000.

OK, wake me up. Shoot, we look good in the Silicon Valley and Emerald Bowl too.

Go Falcons!

I think you have to go further back in the posts to find the one where lossing to NIU took this whole thing out of our hands.

I'll believe that when I see it. The only records our crowds will be setting is for lowest attendance average ever in the MAC if things keep up.

For my two cents, I was rooting against Toledo. I still don't know definitively what the three-way tie breaker shook out as. So I wasn't sold on us going to the championship game in that scenario anyway. Now there are no goofy tie breakers to worry about. It is simple enough to me that if we win out, we will go to a bowl game somewhere. And fwiw, I think Eastern could knock off NIU. If UT beats the Huskies, NIU will be mad as hell and have to win that game to win the MAC West. That gives extra incentive to Eastern to be able to deny NIU the title. Eastrn is a team on the rise and they need to come up with a "signature" win this season to really give them some confidence going into next year. I look for them to play NIU close and right down to the wire.

Given all that, it now comes down to next Tuesday when UT travels to DeKalb. UT has to upset NIU first, before we can even start debating if Eastern can upset NIU. So lets see what happens next week.

I root against UT, period.

We blew it against NIU, period.

If NIU were going to lose two games, they would have lost one of them already.

I simply want and expect BGSU to make up for the NIU loss by beating MU and UT, getting ranked again, and going to a bowl game. I'll settle for at least winning the least three games.

I think BG has had as much chance of winning the MAC west as Kerry does Ohio.

I didn't simply watch UT lose to Miami, I enjoyed it. I love the fact their undeserved AP votes will go away. I love that Bruce isn't almighty and the overblown hype the media created for him will be blunted. I love the fact that even a less than perfect Miami defense stunted the vaunted rocket offense. I love the fact a less than overpower, if very good Miami offense was able to push past UT when it counted. Conversely, I love that the UT defense that struggled with CMU, where its performance was written off, was revealed again to be lousy. I love the fact that UT fans will think they are better than they seemed, but miss the fact they are not. Their game against Miami is exactly the kind of effort that will leave them with exactly the wrong idea of how good or bad they are. They will ride into NIU in classic UT form, higher than a kite, talking the talk about how good NIU is, but not honestly believeing it. The game will be ugly, it might even be close, but it is now, and will be in NIU's hands to win or lose.

What will bring true joy will be if we go to a bowl and leave the rockets fans choking on the smoke they voted to return to their bowling allies and bars. Ye-ha.

How many times last night did the announcers say that Bruce had a receiver open downfield but took the 'safe' play along the sideline? I am amazed, this late in the season, that these two teams didn't play better. If Betts would have been throwing the ball better that game wouldn't have been close.

My work colleague and friend couldn't stop laughing at Amstuck waddle along the sides lines.
