Hey everybody,

Every year my friends and I pick an away game to attend. 2 years ago it was Wisconsin. Last year was Cleveland (OK, technically a home game). This year we've decided to make the trek to Boston for the BC game Oct 6th.

We've already bought tickets, and we’re driving there so that’s taken care of. But considering none of us have been there before, we're a little hesitant on picking a hotel. We're looking at getting there Friday and staying through Sunday. Both nights we’re hoping to head to some good Boston bars. We realize Alumni Stadium isn't exactly in the heart of Boston, but we figured we could take a taxi or train there for the game Saturday morning.

Any suggestions anyone might have on hotels/bars would really help us out, considering we’re getting into this not knowing a whole lot about Boston. Thanks and GO BG!

The original Cheers bar is there, though I can't remember the exact name right now. My sister lives in Boston, so a small chunk of our family will be in town for the weekend. Not a great gameday atmosphere, don't kid yourself, but it's a great place for restaurants and the night life, not to mention tourism.

The original name is the "Bull & Finch Tavern" - I was by it on Sunday night while on vacation.

In terms of hotels, it all depends on how much your willing to pay and how far from Chestnut Hill you want to stay.
My suggesstion would be to stay closer to the center of Boston. Hynes Convention Center/Copley Square/Gov't Center areas. These areas are pretty centrally located. And a plus is you'll be able to catch the Subway (Green Line) right out to Boston College. In fact it drops you off about 5 minutes from the Stadium.
While I'm not too familiar with the Chestnut Hill area in terms of bars, in my time in Boston, I don't think I've ever heard anyone rave about the quality down there.
If your looking to hit up famous Boston establishments, I'd start with the Cask and Flagon. This is the famous bar located right beside Fenway Park. Its located just off the Green Line (Kenmore Square stop). I'd also suggest heading out to Fenway Park during the day, head over to the team store on Yawkey Way, drop the 12 dollars on the tour. The tour is pretty amazing. You get to venture into parts of fenway that you'd need major $$$$ to access during a game. Highlights include access to the Green Monster Seats, access to the 406 Club, access to the press box, and if you catc the right tour, access to the field. Well worth it.

Other establishments that I recommend. Catch the Red Line out to Harvard Square. Hit up John Harvards Brew Pup, Grendels Den, and Cambridge Common.

The Bull and Finch (CHEERS) is located on Beacon Street cross street Brimmer. While its cool to see the bar that Cheers is based on, the bar inside looks nothing like the bar in the show. You'll be sorely disappointed.


Bosto is not short of IRISH pubs, basically you'll be able to find one on every block.
