Look at this Scenario

Marshall- They play at Akron Friday night. Akron's MAC record is 4-1 and remember they defeated Marshall two years ago at Akron. Marshall has played only 2 MAC games on the road, both unimpressive wins--16-13 over Ohio and 27-17 over Kent. A Marshall loss at Akron and at BG would leave them out of the championship game and surely out of a bowl bid with at least 5 losses.

Akron- If Akron wins at home against Marshall they finish up at Ohio and home against Miami. The Miami game could be for the MAC East Championship and a slot in the MACC.

NIU- Their record in away MAC games is also a bit spotty although all wins--Central Florida 30-28, West Mich 59-38, and Ball St 38-31 in overtime. Notice how many points they've been giving up on the road. They play at home on 11-10 with Toledo. Toledo has to win this one to stay in the race. Remember they won two years ago at DeKalb. After playing Toledo, NIU plays East Mich on the road. If East Mich wins on 11-6 against Cent Mich, they could be high for their final game against NIU.

Toledo-Even if they win at NIU a loss to BG would keep them out of the MACC if BG wins out. Toledo would have 2 MAC losses and 4 losses while and BG would have an 8-3 record with 1 MAC loss.

OK- It could happen that BG and Miami by winning out could play again for the MACC at Ford Field.

Even if all this doesn't happen, I think BG by winning out has a good shot at grabbing one of the 2 MAC bowl bids. Remember, these bids don't have to be given to the two teams who play for the MACC. A win over Marshall and a 8-3 record against Marshall and Toledo having at least 4 losses should give BG the nod.

All of this having been said, I think if BG wins out they have a good shot at a Top 25 ranking and a Bowl bid because the MAC might just get 3 bids this year.

BG would be 9-2 if they win out, not 8-3.

Salsa, where every have you been? Return to taunt the rocket fans did we? :)

Marshall is the most inconsistent team in the east this year. Akron has just enough to pull it off, but I don't expect them to do so. I look to see Marshall in the title game, and hope they lose to an NIU that wins out. Obviously I hope for BG to win out, and end the year with a better overall and MAC record than Marshall and a head-to-head win over them. I hope for NIU to get their bowl bid, and BG to be taken over Marshall for the second MAC bid. I expect the bowls may not wish to alienate the MAC by sending the outgoing Herd to one of its bids. Marshall, Miami, and maybe even UT would be in the fight for a third bid, if one is offered.

You beat me to it...

and this would be even better and we would certainly be a bowl favorite when compared to Miami or Marshall.

Yeah...but NIU is the only team to win their defining game this year over BG!! Miami lost their must win game against Marshall. It doesn't matter what the final score is if you win.

I don't think anyone will care if Marshall is 7-5, they travel well and will get a bowl bid, especially for GMAC. Bowl games aren't about merit or record.

I've said it a hundred times on the board already, and I'll say it again, our biggest game to date this season was against Northern Illinois. We lost it and we've been playing catch up all season long ever since....and we still haven't caught up and probably will not. If we get an at-large bowl bid I'll be thrilled! But if we do not, or if we see other MAC teams such as Marshall picked over us for one, we'll have nothing but September 24th to look back at and blame and ask ourselves what could have been had we won that game.

Also, if we lose any of our remaining three games against WMU, Marshall or Toledo, that will probably be the nail in the coffin. We also need these .500-type BCS teams to lose because the more of them that there are sitting around bowl eligible at the end of the season, that is not good news for teams like BG.

Wouldn't it be nice to send Marshall out with a MACC appearance and no bowl bid

How about seeing Akron beat them tomorrow night and then BG trash them so they don't even see the MACC?

You can only look at the negative from a game and reflect on how bad it was for so long. At some you have to draw some positives from it too. Go back to week three and lets say we win. Maybe we lose two weeks later. I can draw positives from that loss because ever since this team has not stepped on the field and thought they were better then the opposition. They have stepped on the field and been all business kicking everyone's butt. I doubt that we would be doing that had we won at NIU. The loss at NIU woke this team up and they have played great since. ...Do I wish we beat NIU? Of course but there is winner and loser in every game. It's rare to always be the winner.

If you need a wake up call to remind you to show up and play the biggest game of the season against the most important opponent you've got serious problems. Yay, we lost to NIU, but it woke us up and we're kicking the crap outta the worst teams in college football!

I can understand showing up flat against WMU or some other team that we're 30 point favorites against, but NIU!? This team has a very disturbing trend of showing up completely flat against their biggest opponents the last couple years.

I know this, but it does no good to continue to go on and on talking about how we shoulda won. It's pointless. It's over and we lost. History. We must move on from it and the team did. They could of went into the tank.

Our Bowl chances are probably screwed cuz.....

of our lame attendance numbers. No matter how many .500 BCS teams lose , I don't see us getting one with these ridiculous attendance at the Doyt. Those sub .500 BCS teams are still lambasting us in the attendance department. :(
