Hi Falcon fans,
My name is Colin Wilson and I'll be covering the football team for The BG News this season. I just wanted to introduce myself to some of the wildest, most loyal fans in college football. I know how much you guys love your team and I want you to know that I'm going to do my best to give you great, fair coverage of them. It's my second consecutive year covering the Falcons so I'm pretty familiar with the team.
We're trying to broaden our horizons this year at The BG News so I want to be able to let the fans interact more with us. Be it suggestions, tips, questions or anything else, I want people to feel free to e-mail us. The e-mail is
[email protected] and my personal e-mail is
[email protected].
I've also started a blog for the whole sports staff to take part in. The address for the blog is
http://bgnewssports.blogspot.com/ There you'll be able to check out tidbits on different teams at BG. Right now there's nothing there so just go ahead and bookmark it. I was lucky enough to get an internship at the Cape Cod Times for the summer so I'm out of the know right now.
Expect the information to flow freely once I get back to the Buckeye State though.
Thanks for your time.

Thank you and welcome Colin!
For a first story, can you PLEASE get to the bottom of the sexual orientation of the new logo? The allegations have been plentiful with no solid facts.
Thank you, in advance.
Middle Management.

Colin, as you move ahead in your work, I give you the best advice anybody at the BG News can ever get, and that is most frequently ignored: SPELL CHECK!
Thank you, and good luck.

Ignored? No...it really isn't! Writers spell check on the fly, designs spell check in InDesign, and copy editors and that nights shop editor are the last to proof read. If anything gets past the writer, it should definitely be fixed before it goes to print but it's not ignored by any means.

Having grown up the son of a newspaper copy editor, I must say I agree.

Did I say spell check? I'm sorry, I meant the grammar check, and the thing that ensures you don’t refer to the second half of an article on another page, and forget to print it. Or Publishing a section of a three-part series out of order.
Please people, it’s the BG News, its an annual sport to make fun of their foibles.

Coincidentally, BGNews season overlaps "making fun of NWLB's foibles". Although in fairness, the latter is more like the PGA calendar, and only really takes about three weeks off in December.

I'm married, so I have an in-house staff that enjoys making daily fun of my foibles. Thus let it be written that the season never ends. And really I’m shocked you didn’t use a NASCAR analogy to compare how some debate topics go around the same circles every year without ending anyplace different.

Colin:
Welcome! I'll be meeting with BG News staffers this weekend, so perhaps we'll get a chance to meet face-to-face! Looking forward to a much-improved football team and hope you and your group have a lot of fun covering them.

I learned grammar and spelling from the nuns at Gesu. "It's I before E except when I'm cracking you in the head with a ruler".
Welcome to the site Colin, we're pretty much divided here by the following :
Fake grass/real grass at the Doyt, new logo...gay or straight?, Walmart...capitalism at it's finest or evil plot to make us all buy cheap crap that breaks, The hockey team...hopelessly bad or completely devoid of talent, Gregg Brandon the football coach...unappreciated genius or drooling idiot, Macman on any board but hockey..... drooling idiot or...no, on second thought, I think we all agree on that, last one.
Anyway...hop right in...pick an issue, pick a side and don't let ignorance of any topic keep you from voicing an opinion. It certainly hasn't stopped any of the rest of us.

Could you make sure that a BG sports team is always featured on the front of the sports page instead of a team from another league? That would be a nice change of pace.

Grant, without the use of an emoticon to tell me what you meant...I don't know if that was sincere or sarcastic.
Emoticons really ARE important!
