Name your starting QB
This is a hypothetical situation in which you are the head coach of BG and our 1st game is tomorrow. Based on what you know, who would you name as our starting QB?
This is not who you think GB will choose or what some reporter told you is most likely going to start. This is your own personal selection!

Turner and Sheehan are the known quantities, and I don't think many of us like what we know about them.
My order is Glaud, Sheehan, Turner. I know that Glaud probably isn't ready to start, and he may not even give us the best chance to win games this year. However, I don't think we're winning anything meaningful with either of the other two, so I would take the chance on the kid with potential and see what he can do. If he flopped miserably, I'd go back to Sheehan.

I want to put Glaud 1st but it just sounds like he hasn't learned enough of the offense yet. I would say give Turner one last shot and if he flops let Glaud get some playing experience and finish out the season.
Sheehan turns the ball over way too much for my liking, he would need to significantly improve in that area somehow before I considered him again..

From what I have seen in practice, it looks as if Glaud doesn't even look like he is a competitor at this point. In fact, I have heard rumblings of turning him into a reciever because of the emergence of Nate Brown. In, fact I have seen Glaud doing some catching and route running drills. My vote is for Turner to start. I don't think Sheehan is very good at all. Atleast Turner has the talent, If he gets his head on straight he could be very good.

FWIW, I did vote Turner just because he has the most experience. I keep thinking at some point it is all going to click and we will see the Turner that played in the 2005 Spring game.
Why wasn't Freddie Barnes an option?

I'm with Warthog and the rest of the Nate Brown folks...haven't seen him other than on film, but he's big, mobile and he has a very good arm. I think he's our guy down the road.
I'd prefer to see Turner start over Sheehan primarily because he adds a dimension (running) to the offense that Sheehan lacks. Turner doesn't turn the ball over as much as Sheehan does either. I'l take a missed read that results in an incompletion or completion to a safety valve over an int into double coverage any day of the week. Sheehan's got a stronger arm, but AT can make the throws you need him to....if he can see them

It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Turner - passed I think 11 TDs and ran 5, so responsible for 16 TDs, and threw only 5 picks, and I can't think of a single time he fumbled it and lost possession. Please correct me if I'm wrong on this.
Sheehan - 0 TDs, 4 picks.

Unless one of them grows a LOT as a player, I don't think we'll be a consistent winner with either of them.MarkL wrote:Turner - passed I think 11 TDs and ran 5, so responsible for 16 TDs, and threw only 5 picks, and I can't think of a single time he fumbled it and lost possession. If forced to choose I prefer Turner because I think he's got more talent. Neither of them have done anything to make me believe they'll lead the team to a title.
I'd love Turner to have the light go on and EARN the starting job, but from all accounts he hasn't done that much in practice. If we're going to play a QB who's not mentally ready to lead this team I would prefer it be one of the freshmen (Brown or Glaud). Like Flipper said, I think Brown is our future, and he definitely looks the part on film.

I concure but would not even put Turner on the list because he is just that bad. AG would be set if we had made the smart choice last year and just wasted last season developing him instead of working on nondevelopable to start with. AG is sollid and played the spread in HS so he knows the basics, he has a great arm and good progressions and doesnt telegraph his passes, protect the ball very well and if you liked Omars style he would fit your bill as he is not the strong Run threat that J5 was.

First off, I am a big supporter of AT and would like to see him get the starting job. But I dont think its fair to judge Sheehan solely on his performances last year. Look at the situations he was thrown into and expected to perform well. Thats coaches fault right there. Sheehan has had all spring and summer to prepare for the starting role and he has definately improved.
I dont think it would be smart at all to play Glaud or Brown this season unless the other two completely fall off. They just aren't ready, plain and simple. Do you guys actually want to win games or just completely write off the season to develope a freshman thats not ready to play yet. I dunno, I would much rather go with AT who has proven he can put us in a position to win games. I think Nate Brown is going to be a great QB sometime soon, but hes just not ready now.
